The first beams of golden morning sunlight poured through the window and into the living room, giving a warm ambient lighting to the room the five kids were sleeping in. The beam of sunlight cascaded gloriously through the window, across the floor, onto the couch... and right onto Pablo's face.
Slowly one eye opened, and immediately winced shut at the near-blinding light flooding it. Groggily, Pablo raised a flipper to his face, shielding his eyes from the light shining through the open window. He wiped his face a bit, facing away from the light before something else caught his attention. An absolutely AMAZING smell filled his two nostrils. The smell of... breakfast. Immediately his head darted towards the kitchen, and his eyes went wide when he saw who was there.
Austin's mom and stepdad, both in the kitchen, making breakfast. Pablo has been to Austin's house before, and he knew that his parents made the best breakfasts in the whole neighborhood. No, more like the whole UNIVERSE. What better way to start off the first real day of summer then with crispy, crunchy bagels, eggs and cinnamon rolls? The heavenly smell also seemed to catch the attention of his other friends, as they too began to wake up. Pablo slunk off the couch, and began making his way towards the kitchen, to which Austin's mom happened to notice.
"Up already?"
"Heh... yeah. The sun was in my eyes, plus the smell of your cooking got me awake REAL fast." Pablo chuckled, to which she let out a laugh as well. Austin was the next one to wake up, alongside Uniqua. Austin's stepdad glanced over his shoulder, a warm smile on his face.
"Didja sleep well, guys?"
"Yep."
'Like a rock!"
"Never been better."
Austin's dad nodded, and continued flipping a massive pancake in a pan. "Good, good, cuz' now you get to wake up to Miller and DeGrady's famous family breakfast!"
Austin and Pablo shared a chuckle, as Uniqua joined them at the kitchen counter. After a minute or two, the parents finished their cooking, and began preparing plates for the five. As they prepared, Tyrone and Tasha finally got up too, and made their way to the kitchen counter as well, their eyes baggy and tired. "Yeesh, you don't look so good you two." Austin chuckled. "Maybe they're just sleeping off those crushing defeats they suffered last night." Pablo inserted, a devilish grin on his face. Both Tasha and Tyrone shot him a glare, but before they could speak in protest a full plate of toast, bagels, pancakes and cinnamon rolls slid across the counter towards them. That IMMEDIATELY shut them up. Other plates full of delicious breakfast foods slid towards the other three, and their eyes widened. "Aaalrighty kiddos, eat up!"
Austin's parents didn't have to tell them twice. Immediately they ripped right into their meal, savoring every single bite they took while the two parents looked on in pride.
After a few minutes of obnoxiously loud eating, Austin was the first to speak.
"So... what's on the agenda today guys?"
Pablo put down the bagel he was eating and thought for a moment. "...Huh. Good question."
Tyrone piped up. "Well, I've been wanting to run by downtown and snag that new Wimpy Kid book that just got released, and I heard that the new Iron Man comic you've been wanting is there now."
"Wait, legit??" Pablo said, his voice suddenly taking on an excited tone. "Yeah! And knowing you're a comic nut, I figured we could both go, buy some books, and maybe rent a video game or two."
Pablo's smile could've lit up the whole room at this. He'd been wanting to go to Downtown Books again ever since school started, but he never got the chance. And now, he was finally getting one. "Totally! I just gotta run by my house, get my wallet and tell my mom first."
Tyrone cocked an eyebrow at this. "Tell your mom?" He asked, a hint of uncertainty in his voice. "Er... yeah. Mom's still really strict about going out by myself, which in my opinion is DUMB. I'm literally a teenager now! I can take care of myself!"
"You also said that before you got yourself lost in the woods behind Caleb's house." Tasha snarkily added, which caused a snicker to ring out through the gang. "Wha- s-shuddup Tasha, that was two years ago! And nobody asked you!" Pablo snapped back, embarrassed. Tyrone couldn't help but let out a snicker, before speaking again. "That's alright man, but you don't gotta run all the way over there and back to tell her, I mean, that's what that is for." Tyrone explained, pointing to Pablos' phone in his shorts pocket. "True, true, but still, you know how my mom is."
"Dude. I totally understand having an overprotective mom, but you GOTTA loosen up a bit. I mean, we're still kids for goodness sake! Plus you aren't gonna be COMPLETELY alone, you got me!"
Pablo thought for a moment, taking a bite of his bagel, before nodding. "Y... yeah, you're right. I'll just shoot my mom a text once we head out. Plus, Austin's parents know where we're going, right?"
"Oh definitely! Don't worry kiddo, we got ya covered." Austin's step dad said, giving him the finger guns. Pablo smiled again, finishing his bagel and getting up. "Alright, it's settled then."
Pablo bounded over to his duffel bag in the corner, and began walking towards the bathroom.
