Chapter 2

---------------> Mark Anderson

Mark

"Trick-or-treat!" That's what keeps ringing in my head. Over a hundred times I've heard that this one night and I'm going insane from it; trick-or-treat! Trick-or-Treat!! TRICK-OR FRICKEN-TREAT! WE GET IT! Tonight when I could have been at the dance at school, my parents enlisted me to go out and brave the streets, protecting my sister from the little molesters in cute bunny or rugged cowboy costumes.

Well, at least it's only my sister I have to watch; and that not hard at all, shes wearing a big, sparkly Cinderella costume that sticks out like a soar thumb on the illuminated streets of our neighborhood. If I had to watch anybody else, I would probably have to shoot myself to end it and nothing else. Being a werewolf, our bodies heal at rates as fast as the stock market can plummet.

The night smelt of candy with the slightest tint of an earthy grass scent; not surprising since A; it's Halloween and candy is being spread faster than you can say the word and B; our town is very large, literally; houses stand on masterful lots with enough room to fit at least one more next to it, parks litter each block with what some say charm, I say kind of tacky, and our high school... let's just say that it's a converted Brick Mansion and call it a day.

"Can we go down Maple Street?" Ali asks me, looking up to my eyes with her sparkling brown ones. I smile and bed down to her height so she can hear me better.

"Sure, but only the right side. We don't want to cross over to the left, okay?" She nods and grabs my hand in her tiny one; starting to pull me along with her.

She is basically my life; I love her so much, I would do anything for her, even if it meant risking my own life in the process, that's how much she means to me. She's always the one who can cheer me up when sad, annoy me when I'm too happy, make me laugh uncontrollably; only her.

"Trick-Or-Treat!" Ugh! This is so annoying! I take out my phone and plug in my head phones and blast my music; louder than the high pitched chatter of all the kids around us. Right as my favorite song comes on, my phone starts to ring and I grunt aloud. You have got to be KIDDING me! Just... I can't win tonight... wait, it's Brendan...

"Wassup?" I say into my phone after the ring tones goes away.

"Du-de! Whe- ar- -ou!?" I can barely hear him over loud, ear piercing music in the background; my wolf literally barking at me from hurting it's ears. I have to almost mute my phone to make it so I could hear, that's how loud it is.

"I can't hear you! Speak up!" I say, hoping this would help him. Ali pulls on my sleeve lightly and smiles up to me. The next house is Mrs. Johnson's house; our next door neighbors so when we walk up, I wave and she smiles to me as Ali runs up the pathway.

"Can you hear me now?" Brendan's voice says 100 times clearer than before. I actually have to turn the volume back up to hear him speak.

"Better."

"Where are you?" He asks once again. I sigh deeply before looking to Ali giving Mrs. Johnson a big hug. She's a family friend of ours; I knew her son when I was young so, every now and again, when he visits her, he visits us as well.

"Taking my sister Trick-Or-Treating. Dad couldn't since tonight's a full moon and is, yeah, doing... stuff." I try my best to keep this from getting weird and awkward but of coarse I have to snicker a little bit, but also groan about how grouse the thought is. Mom, dad... Ugh!

"Seriously? Sucks to be you man." I chuckle, shaking my head slowly; my hair flopping in my face while doing so. Ali is at my side and we walk past our house, to Mrs. Cartha's. She's our Aunt and also... she's the elder wolf from our pack. Only few know including us, since she's very important; that's why we live in separate houses and have separate last names. Ali hangs out with her almost everyday which leaves the house nice and quiet for me, just in case if I have a bad day or something.

"I don't know; It's nice to change things up a little." I reply very airy; I couldn't help yawning. I can feel my wolf pawing at me to go to bed. Ali had ran up to Aunt Izzy, screaming her name happily; A wicked smile grew on my face watching this.

"Yeah, but dude; You should be here! Everybody is wondering where you are." I shake my head slightly. They miss me already and it's only been, probably 5 hours since school; and half of these people I don't even know, nor want to know. I'm not like those people who have millions of Facebook or Twitter followers, I just have my closest friends and that's it; It's better that way.

"Tell them t-" I stop cold, dropping my phone onto the soft, green grass.

"Mark?"

"boys and girls of every age... wouldn't you like to see something strange... come with us and you will see... this, our town of Halloween!" My heart froze, listening to the familiar tune. That voice... it's so angelic; so beautiful... Deep down, I could feel my wolf howling 'mate' but all I did was look across the street confused. I could smell the deep, sweet scent of roses and honey from over in that direction... but all I saw was a guys, blonde, thin and tall, walking with a huge sack of candy. That can't be right. It's impossible...

"MARK!" I ignore my phone and continue listening to that voice...

"this is Halloween... this is Halloween... pumpkins scare in the dead of night..." That voice... sends tingles throughout my entire being and that of my wolf's... There's no way! It's impossible for a guy to be my 'mate', let alone be able to sing like that.

"Enough already!" A high pitched voice, full of laughter and joy reaches my ears. Pumpkin? A girl in bright orange and black, almost perfectly in blend with the night around her. That must be her! My wolf stirs, wanting me to go over and make my 'mate' mine, but I can't move. It would be beyond weird, wouldn't it? Middle of the night, in a skimpy costume... and a random guy comes up to you... bad combination if you know where I'm going. "You've sang that song 5 bazillion times already..." Her voice gets softer as they walk away... but something seems off. It has to be her... it's impossible for that boy to be- to be my 'mate'. Isn't it?

"MARK!!!" I jump up out of fright as this time, I heard him call my name. I reach down to grab my phone from the grass.

"S-sorry man." I say kind of out of breath from my heart racing. I try breathing slowly, but my heart keeps beating ecstatically; just the scent of her riles me up.

"Dude, what happened?" He asks concerned. The truth is... I don't really know. All I do is that I found my 'mate'.

"I-I... I think I found my 'mate'." I say airing my thoughts out loud. Ali looks at me with widened eyes and I just smile, taking her hand softly into mine.

"YOU WHAT!?" He screams into my ears causing my wolf to growl again at me; Ali giggles from having heard that too.

"Um... I'll tell you later everything." I can tell from the way it sounded that he either face palmed himself or slapped a girls ass and knowing him, he wouldn't do the second one; he's not a player at all... come to think of it, I don't think he's ever had a girlfriend... He's probably the only guy I know who actually wants to find the one, and nobody else.

"Ugh! Fine, but you BETTER tell me!" He says before abruptly hanging up before I could respond. My gaze first goes to my phone turning off, then to my sister who was watching me intently with her big, cute brown eyes.

"What?" I ask peering down at her; she just giggles and blushes slightly.

"Nothing..." She says in the most innocent voice she can dish up. I swear she's going to be the end of me.
