I have always been the quiet kid in class. The one that sits in the back and never raises their hand even though the know the answer. The one that would walk the halls or sit alone at lunch with my earbuds in. I don't have many friends, or any at all for that matter. Its not that I pushed people away, it was that I didn't want to make the first move. I wanted someone to see me and think “Hmm i want to be their friend” and come over and talk to me.
I lived and breathed music. I loved every type, from country to rap, and pop to rock, But my favorite has always been alternative. I just loved how you could listen to the lyrics and get a message or feel something.
On a particular Monday morning,October 11th, to be exact I took my normal seat in the back of the bus, alone. We were about to pull away from the last stop when a tall scrawny boys runs on to the bus at the last second. I didn't even give him a second glance until he plopped down next to me. I ignored him and turned up my music jamming too Flaws by Bastille on repeat, my favorite song at the moment. I was getting really into the song until a sudden tap on my shoulder took me out of my trance. I was startled so I jumped to the the side that I got tapped on accidentally hitting the tall scrawny boy sitting next to me.
“Sorry…” I mumbled.
“S’Okay” the boy replied, “I didn’t mean to startle you. I just wanted to say hi I’m Harry.”
“Louis.” I grumbled back.
“What grade are in? I'm a senior.” Harry chatted a bit to brightly for my liking.
“Senior.” I continued to mumble.
“Oh! I thought you were a sophomore. Your so small so I just assumed….” he trailed off. “What are you listening to?”
Now this is one thing I’ve always hated. I just hate it when someone ask what song I’m listening to because my music is my diary. My songs make me feel things and mean a lot to me. They personal and I don’t want this Harry kid that i meet less than 5 minutes ago reading my diary. So I decided to just ignore him. It didn’t work.
He tapped my shoulder again. “Come on Louis I know you can hear me,” he said continually poking my shoulder.
I now have only been on the bus with him for 7 minutes and he is already annoying me and I don’t like him. I turned my head to glare at him actually, seeing his face for the first time. He was quite charming for being so tall and scrawny. With his glittering green eyes and beautiful brown curly locks. I continued to glare at him and he just stared right back and I could tell he was studying me just the way I was studying him. I finally decided what the heck I’ll just tell him.
“Flaws by Bastille.” I said quietly but not mumbling this time.
“I love Bastille!” Harry smiled. “They are a great band. My favorite song by them is Weight Of Living. Those lyrics really get to me,” Harry smiled even brighter.
Ok so maybe he wasn't as bad as i thought he was. He did have great taste in music but he was still annoying.
We sat in silence for the last part of the ride. I, staring out the window wonder why this boy wants to talk to me and Harry fiddling on his phone. As we pulled in Harry tapped me on the shoulder again.
“So do you take the bus to and from school?” he questioned kindly.
“Every day,” I replied a little too bitterly then I attended to to adjusting my beanie.
“Cool! So I’ll see you here again after school?” He said standing up and gathering his things.
“Yup.” I said standing up to.
He pulled out his phone, “Can I have your number then if we are going to be sitting next to each other every day?” He said shoving his phone in my face.
“Uh…” This was new to me. I have never actually have given out my number to anyone or really texted anyone at all. Only my Mom and Dad when I needed something. But there is a first for everything. I took his phone and quickly typed in my name and number.
“Thanks! What a lovely name. Louis Tomlinson.” Harry smiled cheekily.
I looked down at my phone to turn up my music.
“Louis!” he yelled. I looked up and he snapped a pic. “Cute! Now I have a profile picture for you.”
“Not cool. Delete it!” I mumbled.I did NOT like having my picture taken.
“No. I like it.” He stated.
“Let me see.” He passed me his phone. Surprisingly it wasn't that bad of a picture. My blue eyes were big and bright from being surprised at someone calling my name. My face showed the same expression and my fluffy brown hair was tucked under my beanie with only my hair line sticking out. I passed him back his phone not looking up at Harry. Standing next to him as we walked off the bus i realized how tall he really was and how small I was. I only went up to the top of his neck.
“Give me your phone so I can put my number in.” Harry said. I passed him my phone with my earbuds still connected and in my ears. He typed for a few seconds and then made the the biggest cheekiest smile I have ever seen and snapped a pic. I hid my smile in the sleeve of my jumper and tried to contain my giggle but I let one slip.
“That was the cutest laugh I have ever heard!” Harry laughed as he did his goofy smile again. Casing me to giggle. He smiled down at me fondly. I blushed as he handed my phone back and checked the time.
“I have to get to class,” I trailed off. “See you latter Harry Styles.”
“Ok! I’ll see you after school!” Harry said.
He took a step forward as he was about to hug me and I think he was. But the weirder part was that I was going to let him. I never let anyone hug or even touch me but with Harry I feel different. Like as if he was an old friend that I reunited with. I thought about all this in my head as i walked to class with my earbuds in still with Flaws on repeat.
