Phantom POV:"Sing for me, Christine."
I wound one hand around her throat, holding her in place. I could feel her pulse racing under my grip, a throbbing that soothed my core. With my other hand, I made to touch her waist, but stopped myself. I decided to leave it hanging at my side instead.
"Erik?" She whispered in a squeak. She sounded terrified, a noise I would have originally thought triumphant, but found it actually disarming coming from the one person I loved with all my heart.
Before I could answer anything, Christine fell limp. She began to fall to the ground, but just before her head hit, I wrapped my arm around her stomach and pulled her up. I was taken back by something I hadn't originally noticed under her thick dress; Where I had caught her, a small bulge had replaced her flat belly. She was pregnant? I lifted the faint Christine into my trusting arms, afraid of what was to come of my new discovery.
Raoul POV:
Christine, my love, had been gone for a while now. She asked me if she could have a look around the opera house, which honestly didn't make any sense considering it was just a burnt crisp (I was surprised that it was still standing). I let her go, but now knowing not where she went, I felt very uneasy.
Meg was busy talking about her new life as a dancer in another small London play, and I felt somewhat sympathetic for interrupting. "Madame Giry, did you see which way Christine went?"
"No, Monsieur, I'm afraid I hadn't." Worry and panic deepened in my chest. "I'm sure she's fine, Monsieur. She will be back soon," Madame Giry added on quickly, seeing my furrowed eyebrows.
"I think I will go look for her. Excuse me for a moment." I began up the staircase, leading to the very front of the building. I tugged at the door handles, but with no luck. They were locked. I decided to try to go around back, to see if Christine had found an opening somewhere else. I circled the entire perimeter twice, finding no other entryway.
Unless she had walked through walls, my Christine was missing.
