*This is a story AFTER the book "Flashback." Also, this story is in Sophie's perspective. Please let me know in the comments if you enjoyed reading this! This is my first story, so I hope you enjoy!
I paced around my room. I couldn't stop worrying about Tam, and not just for Linh's sake. What if the Neverseen managed to change his mind and convert him onto their side? No. Tam is smarter than that. I told myself. He would never- A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. I sighed. Grady and Edaline were out in the fields, trying to tame Verdi, the one and only T-Rex who was a permanent resident at Havenfield. I dashed down the stairs to answer the door. I peeked through the window, and to my surprise, it was Fitz. I smiled shyly, suddenly feeling very self-conscious, and opened the door.
"Hey Fitz." I said, tucking a strand of blond hair behind my ear. "Come in."
"Thanks." He said, running a hand through his perfect, brown hair. I had to lean against the table in order to think straight again. But why was he here?
"I just wanted to check in on you. With everything going on lately, I haven't seen you in a while." He said blushing adorably pink. He smiled and I was surprised I didn't melt. I took a breath to clam my fluttering heart. It was just Fitz. And yet, my heart was beating fast, and my palms had started to sweat.
I smiled. "That's really sweet of you, thanks."
Fitz stepped closer to me. "Hey, I wanted to talk to you." He glanced around before he leaned in and said, "Somewhere private." I nodded, the butterflies in my stomach swarming. What could he possibly want to talk about? Maybe it was about Tam or the Neverseen. I tried to ignore the part of me that serectly wondered if he had come to talk about our relationship. I motioned for him to follow me up the stairs to my room on the third floor. I closed the door wanting a little privacy from SOMEONE'S unwanted ears. Tarina smirked at me but said nothing. The rest of my bodyguards lingered closer than I wanted, but what could I do? I glared at them before closing the door, rolling my eyes as Sandor scoffed.
"So what's up?" I asked. "Is this about Tam? I know. I've been thinking about how Lady Gisela-"
"Actually, I wanted talk to you about.... us. " He smiled earnestly as his eyes bore into mine, a slight blush on his cheeks.
"Um okay. Sure." I smiled nervously, trying to calm my wildly beating heart.
Fitz opened his mouth but no words came out. I had never seen him look this nervous before. Well, only once and that was....when he almost kissed me. He ran a hand through his hair.
"Sophie...I..."
No words came out of his mouth and as he stepped closer, I could feel my heart beating a mile per minute. We were standing close. So close. I took a deep breath and filled the little space between us. I stared into his bright eyes, his gaze focusing noticeably on my lips. He smiled tucking a piece of hair behind my ear. I knew what I wanted, no, what I needed to do. I couldn't resist anymore. My body toke over my mind as I pulled him closer and kissed him long and soft. I kissed him and kissed him until I ran out of air and took a breath. He looked surprised, but not as surprised as I was. But I wouldn't have changed a thing. Before I could say anything, he took the lead, kissing me again. I was up against him, and every breath I took was one of his. I gasped for air, and we stood there. Breathing heavily, heads touching each other. His smile as radiant as the sun, and his eyes, a clear teal sky.
"Sophie..."
"Fitz." There were a thousand unsaid words, but not enough time to say them. I nestled onto his shoulder and he held me, his hand resting on my cheek. When I looked into his eyes, my heart melted. Just as he leaned in for another kiss, a knock on the door interrupted us. I jumped to my feet as Fitz and I spread apart, both flushing deep red.
I opened the door, hoping my face wasn't as red as I felt. Edaline raised an eyebrow. "Oh. Fitz. I didn't realize you were here." She winked at me and I felt cheeks heat up. Well, on the bright side, at least it wasn't Grady. I had a strong suspicion that he wouldn't have handled this as delicately as Edaline was doing.
"Yah, he stopped by a couple mintutes ago." I said, trying to do anything to break the awkward tension.
She smiled suspiciously but thankfully, dropped it. "Well Sophie, you have a visitor. I'll tell him you'll be right there." She grinned at me and slowly walked out the door. I sighed. I knew she was going to come back. I turned back to Fitz, resisting the urge to tug out an eyelash. " I'm sorry. I don't want you to leave." I whispered. I knew I was overreacting, but I didn't care. I nestled into his shoulder and hugged him, a gesture that lasted longer than it should have.
"It's okay." He smiled at me. "I'm sure we'll finish this another time." The look in his eyes made me blush hard. He stepped closer, his hand on my cheek, lifting my head to his. I kissed him, wanting it to last forever. I could have stood there all day, kissing him. Now that we were being so open about our affections, I didn't want to stop. But I had too. Fitz squeezed my hand, and gently broke our kiss.
"Bye Sophie." He winked, pulling out a pathfinder, before light leaping away. I sighed. Well, I better see who my "visitor" was.
