I grew up next to grey
hungry water
like the north Atlantic and a coastal marsh, and have since moved to the midwest
where people seem to meet
water
as suffocated
soft-bottomed
lakes that don't even clean themselves.
I can't handle
being the most important
thing
in a lake's day.
Give me
the water that can take decades to
disappear a whale carcass because
nothing
is ever important enough to rush.
