"I am telling you Steph, it isn't a girl"
El sighs for what could've been the hundredth time that day. While recalling her rather uneventful day to her closest friend, El had let loose the little detail about her Secret-Stalker-Axe-Murderer. The little detail, which was now the topic of their discussion, had already taken over ten minutes of their phone call.
"How can you be so sure though? I mean, you did say that this person - your stalker - is from your school. Wait, how are you sure about that theory again?"
"Because, one, he mentioned that his teacher was absent. That means he is in either school or college."
"Mhmm, and?"
"And second of all, when I tried searching for him in the lunch line - which he also mentioned - he told me to stop looking!"
"Girl, that could mean two things. Either he - or she - is in your school, or you need to get a restraining order against this stalker of yours."
"I'm considering the latter option. No one sticks with me for so long, this dude must definitely be a psycho."
"El."
"Okay, fine. But it's true. Also, I said "dude" because he didn't deny the 'mystery man' statement."
"Whatever. Anyway, I don't think that is a very strong base for your argument on this person's gender. But if it is a dude, I hope he's good looking. And smart. And not a creep. And maybe has beautiful eyes. And - - "
"Gosh, so demanding"
Stephanie lets out a little giggle, which turns into a hearty laugh as El joins in. The call ends after another thirty minutes of talking about anything and everything.
Regardless of their physical separation owing to Stephanie changing schools, the girls worked hard on maintaining their strong bond. El wipes away a happy tear as the call clicks to an end, smiling a little to herself.
"Now this feels normal," she whispers, the sound of the sea and a dose of Stephanie calming her. Eight hours of school would be a tad easier to deal with tomorrow. That is what she hopes for, anyway.
