"This semester we will be learning all about the different guilds and their purpose in our world. We will also be visiting a few of them as well." Our professor announced. The class seemed to erupt in chatter at this news. I didn't know much about the various guilds, not being from a magical family or community. What little I did know about them came from Helion.
Since we had spoken to the headmaster there was a bit of hope that welled up inside me. Tae was out there and I was certain that I could hear him that night as well. When I woke up it had all felt like a dream but the feeling that it left behind was all too real.
"Guilds have all types of mages. Most use familiars to boost their magical abilities but there are those who can use magic on their own. Outside of these walls there are mages all over this realm and others that are doing what they can to control the magical creatures that run rampant. That is the duty of the magical guilds that have been formed over the years."
It was strange to be going on with life without Tae but I had sort of a revelation after that night. He would want this. If he was out there fighting to survive we would have to be here as well, fighting to get stronger. I knew that one day we would see him again but there was no telling when that would be so until then we would have to learn more and get stronger.
"In in realms unaware of magic, such as the Earth realm, there are creatures that have kept themselves well hidden and have still managed to cause unexplained mayhem. Luckily we have mages implanted in various role of high standing in non-magical realms to help explain these occurrences to mortals." The professor continued.
My hand, holding the pen tightly, idly continued to scribble as he spoke, even as my mind wondered to Tae. Levi sat beside me in an actual desk, this being one of the classes that he was actually required to take. The bored look on his face would have given anyone the impression that he wasn't paying attention but knowing him he was taking in all the information and storing it for later.
"That is all that we will be going over today. The rest of this period I suggest you take some time to work with your familiars. The training ground is open and you are all allowed to go in there for some time today." The classroom once again became alive with the sound of laughter and chatter as some of the students rushed to do just as the professor had instructed.
Levi and I weren't in any hurry as we always had access to the training ground and even if we didn't we had gotten plenty of practice fighting those mimics months ago. When I was in my slump Levi wanted the two of us to practice a lot but I was in no condition to do so, nor did I care but after my epiphany Levi had to practically drag my away from the training grounds at night.
"Levi do you want to go too?" I questioned just as he turned his bored look to me.
"My body hurts and I blame you." He groaned, as he rolled both of his shoulders backwards, a slight popping sound reaching my ears.
"Don't say things like that." I whispered harshly, my eyes shifting from side to side trying to see if anyone heard Levi's slightly lewd outburst. Everyone already knew that we were a thing but I didn't need everyone thinking that all we did was...that.
"It's true though!" He whined, turning to me, his eyes wide and staring at me pleadingly. "All you do is train. I need a break.".
"Fine. I guess we can take a break just this once."
"You can train on your own if you really want to." He suggested and I half-heartedly shrugged my shoulders in response. It wasn't the same training against the simulations that they created. They lacked something real, that I couldn't put my finger on but it just wasn't the same.
