My name is Ben. No last name, none of us have them, it’s just Ben. And while I may not look like much, I can do extraordinary things. I can Jump anyplace, anywhere, anytime.
I wake up in an uncomfortable cot next to a squirming body.
The body pokes my cheek. “Psst,” it whispers, “Ben.”
I open my eyes just wide enough to see Darcie. “What time is it?” I ask her.
“It’s almost four ‘o’clock,” she says.
“In the morning?”
She nods.
“Go back to bed,” I playfully shove her off of me, but she climbs onto my chest and bounces lightly. “Ouf,” I groan, “go back to bed.”
"I can’t. I just can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m up,” she says quietly.
