Tyler's POV

I am jolted awake by the sound of my grandmother screaming.

"Tyler! You useless child wake up right now or you'll be late for school!"

"Ok, ok, you don't have to shout!"

"Don't you dare talk back to me!"

"Whatever!"

"You ungrateful child! You owe me your life, if I hadn't taken you from your stupid father..."

She stopped herself because she knows its a sensitive subject. At least she still has even just a little bit of sympathy for me.

I don't like waking up first thing in the morning with some high pitched screaming. Gosh, can't she just be normal and wake me up more calmly. Arrrggghhh!

I don't want to be late, so I get up, change to a white v neck and black jeans. I don't feel like thinking about my outfit today. Besides, I dont have time to.

I fix my bag and stuff yesterday's homework and my pens in the bag and grab my navy blue hoodie. I put it on and run my hands through my hair.

A series of images flash again in my mind. No, I don't want to think about my father or should I even call him that. He was never even a father to me.

She just had to remind me.

Now I feel it again...

The hatred.

The anger.

The sadness and need.

I shake my head trying to shake those thoughts out of my head. I don't need them.

Once I get to the bottom of the stairs, my grandmother starts mumbling to herself like every morning.

"Always late... Always late... No respect..."

I just decide to ignore her because I don't want to argue anymore, so I just go out and ride my bike to school.

As I was getting my history book, I heard someone scream something about cinnamon jelly? I don't know so i just get on with what I was doing.

I saw Kelly. She was my classmate in second grade and we were bestfriends eversince. I walk up to her smiling.

"Hey! Back to school uggghh....."

"Hey Tyler! I know right i dont wanna go to school, what's your first class?"

"Uhhmm...," i check my new schedule, "history"

"Ohhh mine's math."

She starts talking about her summer, telling jokes from time to time.

While I was laughing I had a feeling that someone was watching me, so I turned around. It was just that girl... Alex... I think that's her name and a girl with long, straight dark hair. I don't see her face because Alex was covering it, but I don't think I've seen her before.

She starts smiling and Alex moves, also laughing and I see her face. She kinda looks familiar although I don't know where I've seen her, but I'm sure it wasn't at school. I stay there studying her face trying to think where I've seen her when Kelly snaps me out of it.

"Tyler, I'm gonna go ahead to my first class. I wanna be there before the bell rings."

"Yah sure. See you at recess?"

"Ofcourse!"

We hug goodbye and I think I saw the new girl looking at us and ofcourse the occasional ayyiiieee! from those walking past us. I don't really mind those. Kelly's just a friend, it's a friendly hug and there's nothing wrong with that.

I head to the bulletin board and look for a club because I don't like being at home with a nagging grandmother who thinks I'm useless, so I sign up for drawing because it's the first thing I see.
