no gif yeet!!max woke up in a calm manner for what felt like the first time in forever. as her eyelids fluttered open and adjusted to the light, she found herself in the comfort of her bedroom, no vines or darkness, just her in her bed surrounded by the yellow walls. she groggily reached out her hand to her nightstand to grab her watch so she could check the time.
grabbing the wrist watch she held it up trying to get it into the light so she could read it. she felt rested, but found her lazy and comfortable wrapped up in her blankets. it was only ten thirty which max was surprised about. she was expecting herself to sleep in past noon because of how exhausted she was before passing out. she took a deep breath staring out the window. it was odd, her house was quiet. she either guessed billy passed out drunk last night or left the house earlier, because she knew damn well music would be blasting through the small bungalow if billy was his normal self right now.
she felt relaxed at the sound of the birds chirping, but then her mind began to wonder to the events of today, and her body tensed. today was the day she told everyone what was wrong with her. she felt like this was her last day free human until she would be stuck as a science experiment for who knows how long. groaning she managed to climb her way out of the mountain of blankets she was covered in and walked to her door. she slowly turned the knob and opened the squeaky door. she quietly tiptoed down the hall wincing every time the floorboards she stepped on made squeaks.
she got to the hall her brothers bedroom and breathed out in relief when she saw that his messy room was deserted. she looked around it seeing everything that was previously on his wall knocked the the ground. she shook her head and walked into the kitchen. broken glass was on ground but despite that everything seemed in place. she bet down and picked up the broken pieces then gently threw them in the trash. she waddled around her house as her whole body ached anytime she made a movement.
she grabbed some cereal from the cabinet along with milk from the fridge and put together a bowl. she sat in silence eating as she ate from the small bowl, she was going to the diner but after last night, she was starving. she briskly cleaned up the kitchen so that it would be in decent condition and retreated back to her bedroom. as max made her way to her drawer she stopped dead in her tracks as she looked at her mirror.
she didn't realize how she didn't pay any attention to her injuries and found herself staring at her broken self. she had a marks and cuts all over her face, some from billy others from the glass. she had matching marks on her legs when she realized some of it was also dried blood. pulling down the hem of her sweatshirt she saw hand marks on her collarbones and as she moved her hands to expose her shoulders, both right and left were red and purple. she lightly let go and stared back into her reflection.
max shook her head sighing and continued her way to her dresser to get changed. she changed into jeans and sweatshirt. she looked at the blue sweatshirt with the word 'california' printed on it. she found herself especially missing home at that moment but for some reason she was also missing the hawkins sweatshirt on her bed.
events of the previous night was all piecing together in her mind. she felt saddened by her and mikes fight but confused as to why she couldn't get over him. yeah, she pretty much said she was leaving their party but her and mike always fought like that so everything was okay? right?
max neatly folded the sweatshirt and sweatpants placing them in a plastic bag. she got ready in her bathroom, making sure to get all the dry blood off of her. as she finished up, she noticed she looked slightly better, her face didn't look as marked as it was, but still bruised.
as she finished, she grabbed money, mikes clothes and her skateboard, then left the house, leaving a dry note for billy, 'i'm going out,"
she jumped onto her skateboard and winced. she had never pushed herself as hard as she did last night and her body was defiantly paying for it this morning. she took it slower than she normally would, but found peace in it. it was a cooler morning, grey skies, misty showers. max found it nice, the air smelt fresh, and the breeze was nice as she skated down her empty street. luckily the diner wasn't to far, so she wasn't pushing herself to much.
