meant to be

(frisk pov)

many legends say, everyone has a soulmate and will find them one day somehow. some legends say that you'll see a red ribbon around your finger when you're near your soulmate, some say your souls will glow in unison when you two meet, others even say that soulmates are born with the same birthmarks.

I didn't believe in them, to be honest.

I didn't believe that soulmates existed. I didn't believe that people were destined to be together since birth. I didn't believe that I would ever find someone who is perfect for me and will accept me for who I am.

But, I guess I could be wrong sometimes.

~a few years ago~

I was just rushing to school because I was late, as usual. This time it was because I had to save an old lady from being hit by a truck ok. As I was just about to enter the school grounds, I leapt over a rock, but my feet somehow missed the floor and instead hit the rock, tripping me, and I crashed onto the ground. I cursed in my head like a mad sailor, why must I fall now? I guess the rock dislikes people leaping over it. As I tried getting up to look at my wounds, I heard footsteps. I looked up to see somebody in a blue hoodie and black basketball shorts walking towards me.

"Are you okay kid?" he said as he held out a hand towards me.

"Yea I'm ok I think," I said as I took his hand and he pulled me back up on my feet, though my knees instantly gave away and I nearly fell over again. Luckily this guy was here because he caught me before I could fall.

"are you sure you are okay?"

I looked at him and realised he wasn't a human, he was a skeleton? Huh. what are the chances of meeting a monster who is nice enough to help me up? Not that I had ever met a monster before. They usually liked to keep to themselves most of the time.

I looked into his eyes, or I guess eyesockets, they were certainly filled with worry and care.

"Yea, I'm fine. Thanks!" And off I went to school.

~

Hmm...I wonder if I'll ever see that skeleton again? I mean, he did seem to be around my age, wait, do skeletons even age at all?

Skeletons are weird.

As you can probably tell, I was obviously paying attention in class. For some reason, that skeleton can't stop crossing my mind. There's just something about him that kind of draws me to him...

-

From that day onwards, I saw him every morning when I go to school.  It got to the point where I decided to finally approach him and ask for his name. Well, I can't just keep calling him "that skeleton", right?

"Hey there, I realised we bump into each often, so I was wondering what's your name?"

"i'm sans, nice to meet you." He held out a bony hand as he spoke.

"Nice to meet you, Sans!" I took his hand to shake it, but as I grabbed his hand, I heard a very loud fart sound.

*inserts fart sound*

We both just burst out laughing on the sidewalk, even though it was just a small prank from our buddy Sans. After a while, Sans was trying to stabilise himself by holding onto a pole, while I was on my knees clutching onto my sides that were hurting from laughing too much. We finally calmed ourselves down and went our ways, though it turns out we were both actually students, just in neighbouring schools that is.

Every day, we met up to walk to school together. On our way, we would sometimes share some jokes and laughs, sometimes talk about our own lives too, like how Sans has a really cool brother. He never stops talking about him, you can tell that he really cares a lot about him.

Somehow, I've always felt so comfortable around him, like I can talk about anything to him and I know he wouldn't judge me at all! He probably feels the same way too. It's as if we had known each for a really long time, even though we only met a couple of weeks ago...

-

"Hey Sans?"

"yea kid?"

"Do you...ever wonder why we became friends so easily?"

"hmm...not really. i just thought it was probably because we had similar interests."

"Well, I was just thinking about how we frequently bumped into each other, and how we became friends almost instantly after I approached you. It's just...different I guess."

"i get your point. maybe we were meant to be or something, like fated together."

"Maybe..."

"you know, out of all the people i've met so far, you are by far the most unique person. i just think it'll be nice if-"

Sans stopped himself from continuing his sentence and turned away to hide his face. I was actually really curious as to what he was going to say and what's with the sudden expression.

"Um, what were you about to say?"

"nothing much." It was pretty obvious he was trying to hide the blue blush on his face.

"Come on, say it! Pleasee?"

"okay okay, i'll say it!" He grumbled.

"i was going to say that, i think it'll be nice if we could maybe be together or something because i want you to stay by my side."

I was not expecting that at all. I could feel my face getting warmer as I start blushing red like a tomato. Hearing him say that actually made my heart flutter away like a little butterfly.

Who knew someone like me could have actually fallen for a skeleton like him?

Without saying anything, I wrapped my hand around his. He was surprised at first, but he then tightened his hand to hold mine as we walked home.

I guess, we really were meant to be.
