CHAPTER 1

"Lyla, get in the car!" my sister yelled from inside the house.  "We're going to be late!"  Late was not acceptible when picking up the most famous boy band in the entire world.  And yes, by that I mean One Direction.

It's a long story.  See, my sister Grace knew Louis and Zayn before they were on the X Factor.  She was on a trip to England at the time.  Since then, she’s become good friends with all five of the boys, and I was able to meet them all last summer.  Now they were starting the United States portion of their tour.

Because she’s such good friends with the boys, they asked her to be their tour manager while they were here.  She scheduled all their shows, and is supposed to pick them up from a small private airport in exactly 57 minutes.  And it takes 50 minutes to get to the airport, so you might be able to see why my sister was stressed.  My friends Olivia, Diana, and Scott were coming along with us, too.  My sister’s house is our after-school hangout place, so she offered to let us go to their concert tonight seeing as we were there and had nothing else to do.  I guess as tour manager you can get free tickets.  Anyway, I was pretty thrilled about seeing my favorite boy band in concert tonight!

My three friends were already seated in Grace's van, ready to go.  I was about to hop in when Grace pulled me aside.  "Lyla, just so you know, the boys are gonna want to talk to you about something when we get to the arena.  Just go with it.  I've got it covered."  I looked at her, bewildered, but she only smiled and motioned towards the van.  "C'mon, let's go."

*~*~*~*~*

"Now, when you see the boys, please don't start screaming your head off," Grace instructed my friend Amelia from the front seat of the van.  We were almost to the airport, and the excitement in the van was contagious.  I was looking forward to seeing the 1D boys again, because it had been a whole year since we saw them last.  Even Grace seemed to be excited; a smile never left her face throughout the whole ride, and her fingers kept tapping out a happy beat on the wheel as she drove.   Olivia was the most excited, however.  She's the only one I know who can eat, sleep, breathe, and everything else One Direction.  I mean, I like them, but I'm not completely obsessed, at least as much as she is.  I knew that Diana, Scott, and I wouldn't freak out when we saw them - especially Scott, since he's, you know, a guy - but Olivia, well, she's a fangirl.  You know what I mean.

"Casey's already at the airport, waiting for them to arrive, and when we get there we're going straight to the concert," Grace continued.  Casey is Grace’s husband, and he offered to get to the airport before her in case she was late.  He’s a very smart guy.  “The concert’s about an hour and a half away from the airport, in Miami, so we’ll be in the car for a little bit.  Also, because of space, I’m going to take the boys in my van, and you all can go with Casey in his car.  Sound good?”  It sounded okay to me, but apparently Olivia had a different opinion.

“You mean, we don’t get to ride with the boys?” she asked, a disappointed look on her face.

Grace thought about  this for a minute.  “I guess we can split you all up into two cars.  Olivia and Diana can go with Casey and two of the boys, and Scott and Lyla can come with me and the other three.  Deal?”

“Deal!” we all chorused.  I knew Diana and Scott could care less about what car they rode in (they don’t really like One Direction).  I just hoped that Olivia wouldn’t squeal like she was doing now all the way to the concert.  I don't think anyone's ears could handle it.

Soon after that we arrived at the airport, and had to basically hold Olivia from running right in without us.  Grace had special passes to get us past security and right up to the gate where their plane would arrive.  The four of us followed Grace through the quiet terminal, trying to keep Olivia quiet enough so that the people that were here wouldn't mob the boys before we could get to them.  Scott and I were having a nice conversation about baseball—he wants to play professionally someday—and I was trying to focus on what he was saying.  I love talking to him, but right then my brain felt like it was about to explode.  Then I saw them.

Five boys sitting on a bench, laughing together, luggage scattered around their feet.

Five perfectly imperfect heads of hair, one blond, one black, and three brown.

Five sets of eves looking around the airport and finally settling on a smiling Grace.

Five of my best friends in the whole world who just happened to be world famous pop stars, jumping up from their seats to come greet us.

Five guys who made up the band One Direction.

This day was gonna be awesome, I just knew it.
