for those who insist on believing in spite of it all:

PREFACE

Attention: those fortunate few that truly believe life is fair, thank God and/or your lucky stars immediately, right now, right this very second; for you have lived truly a blessed life.

Those optimists who have led somewhat less sheltered lives yet still truly believe karma will come calling sooner or later--keep the faith, for you will need it.

Those irrational realists out there who feel as if they've been sentenced to life for the mere crime of being born--read on; for you know precisely where this story is coming from.  You need to know there is a chance for parole. You need to know that any hope, no matter how small, is never a waste of time. You  need this story. Dare to read on and witness how sweet it is when karma finally kicks in and a most desperate damsel in distress actually does get her just desserts.

Whether it be tucked, wagged, pointed, or told brilliantly; every tale has to start somewhere. Like many, this one originates from the end not famed for its smile. It may not smell nice notwithstanding it does tell it like it is. I apologize ahead if the truth offends anyone.

Life is messy, full of the unexpected; even fairytales tend to get a bit grim. Stuff happens--hell, this isn't a school report, just as well tell it like it is--SHIT happens, not just a trickle at a time but by the butt-load.

Might as well face it; reality disappoints time and time again. The bad guys outnumber the good by a trillion to one, and that's on a good day. Be it hero or villain, few truly get what they deserve. Karma can take its own sweet time while justice is continually postponed till the next life. Ye may hope and pray for the best, however best expect nothing and prepare for the worst.

Read on if you can bear it--because a rare few manage to hold on and believe; they can give hope where once there was none; because sometimes the best happy ending can come from the most miserable of beginnings. Sometimes love does conquer all--sometimes fairy tales really do come true--and sometimes an underdog not only survives but thrives.
