We went into the sanctuary, that had just opened after Ben played the few instruments that were listed in the recording. Ben turned the lever as I patiently wait, but I grabbed his attention when I heard ink splashing. "Ben," I whisper, "There are sounds." I look at his hand, tightly grasping onto his ax.
He said, "Stay in here," And so, I wavered in the room and he walked out of it. Sounds of groaning and further splashing were the only things I could hear. Everything eventually came to a halt, and the only thing that reached my ears was Ben's deep sigh. I hurriedly scurried out of the sanctuary and went up to Ben, his back turned to me. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," He turned around, and the only thing different about him from before he left was his pale cheeks that were now stained with blotches of ink. I took my sleeve and wiped his cheeks. It was a useless job, as the ink only smeared on his face and stained my sleeve, but it was worth a shot. "Oh well," I smile, "I'll keep a lookout for a handkerchief or something."
"It's fine," He smiled in return. "Thanks though."
I nod and closely follow him out of the room. I notice how the lights have dimmed. The once semi-bright halls were now covered with a dark and ominous shadow. The aura of this place suddenly felt evil and sinister, it felt cramped. I grabbed onto his sleeve and tugged, feeling too nervous to call out and make more noise than the echo of our footsteps.
He seemed to notice my insecurity and stopped in his tracks. We both looked around. I guess he was thinking the same thing I was. "Something feels off, Ben," I whisper so quietly that I could barely hear myself.
"Are you looking for something?" A male's voice was loud and clear. Startled, I look to Ben for reassurance, but he's grimacing, looking down the hallway. He mouthed the word, 'escape,' but looked to me when I swiftly held onto his hand, rather than his sleeve. I shook my head. I'm not going alone! You even said earlier that it was dangerous for 'someone like me.'
"With me," He whispered.
"What's with all of this silence, my savior?" The voice said, even louder if it was possible. "It's impolite to not answer a question when one is asking." Ben ushered for me to stay in my place and be quiet as he walked towards the middle of the hallway. I was hidden in the darkness. "What do you want, Sammy Lawrence?"
The way Ben said his name made my heart sink. He said it with a heavy tone that made me shiver. Sammy Lawrence must be a really bad guy...
The voice laughed, sounding closer, "I was just checking in on you. You seemed to have brought a new toy." Ben asked, "Toy?" The voice laughed yet again. "Don't try acting confused, my savior. You've played with hundreds upon hundreds of victims." I notice Ben's fists clench. "That was a long time ago. I'm not like that anymore."
A figure came out of the darkness, revealing a tall man, covered with dripping ink. His suspenders were worn out and covered with holes and stains of ink, and he appeared shirtless. But the most interesting factor of his appearance was that he had a mask of Bendy the Demon, covering his inky head.
"I'm the only one here who is actually sane," Ben said as a matter of fact.
"We'll see who the sane one is around here." Out of nowhere, Sammy Lawrence pulled out a weapon of his own and bashed Ben on the top of his head. He fainted and fell to the ground. Oh my God.
I put my hands over my mouth to keep me from making any noise. This is a dangerous situation, and I'm sure Ben would want me to-...
"Miss Toy? Where are you?" He cooed out, carrying Ben's passed-out body over his shoulder.
I'll follow where he goes and save Ben. Every step I made, I had to lightly tap with my foot first to prevent any creaking. If I felt the floor move under my foot, it was going to ruin my cover. Sammy hadn't learned of my presence throughout the whole way to a room. I listened from outside the door to everything.
"So you're awake," Sammy had said. Ben groaned, feeling rope tug at his body. "You trapped me?"
"Of course! We don't want our little lamb to be running around, now do we?"
"Why are you doing this?" Ben had shouted, his tone of voice sounded weak. I felt bad, feeling like everything that had happened to him was all my fault. If only I hadn't come here, Ben would be safe right now. "Is that even a question? You dropped all of your duties as the 'savior' of this place. You abandoned us."
"To try to save the people that I forsook! They are all down there, weeping for hope. Don't you think that's cruel? To just let someone suffer forever?" Ben said, power in his voice.
"I believe that's what they deserve." I heard footsteps walking, and then a door slam. Sammy must have had gone into a room! Sneakily, I twisted the handle and walked in with tiny steps. Ben's glare made it obvious what he was thinking or at least trying to tell me. 'Why is she here and why is she putting herself in danger.'
Oh well.
I looked around, saw the ax laying against the wooden post and picked it up. Then, rushing over to Ben, I cut off the rope. Neither of us said anything since Sammy Lawrence was in the other room. Ben took the ax out of my hands and handled it with a steady grip. "Hide behind the chair," He whispered, "Sit down against it. You should be hidden to an extent."
I did as he said and made myself as small as possible, hugging my knees against my chest. "My savior," Sammy sang as he came out of the room. "That wretched girl had followed me all the way to this room, perhaps in order to save you. It's one thing to do that, but to actually free you..."
Ben, in a flash, brought the ax to Sammy's neck. "Let us go, and you might not die."
