"Lilian!"
Sophie called out to her now 6 year old daughter.
She grew up beautifully with her silver hair, matching her mother's that almost reached her waist. Her bangs partially covered her purple-tinted silver sparkly eyes. She was always so cheerful and full of life.
She also however, seemed to have something special about her. Sophie and Howl had assumptions whether or not, she had any powers or sorcery in her veins like Howl did, but she never showed any evidence of that.
Nonetheless, Calcifer was certain that a certain aura was emitted from her.
Calcifer, was of course one of her only friends, considering she doesn't go to school, and her only companion besides markl and her parents. Though the scarecrow prince and witch of the waste often visit.
Calcifer, was a bit conservative with new beings, but Lilian was different in a way. Her warm presence made him fuzzy. If he wasn't a fire demon, the warmth that he felt was what he imagined being close to a fire on a cold night would feel like.
As it would go, Calcifer, was used to doing little tricks for Lilian when she was a toddler since it really seemed to make her laugh and smile. With the knowledge that Calcifer had a soft spot for the girl, Howl and Sophie would constantly tease him about it.
They would threaten him using her and he would of course have no choice but to oblige. Sometimes even doing such silly things that Howl and Markl would want him to do. Whenever he was teased, he would backlash them back and say that he treated Lilian a bit special was because she was still little.
One night however, made Calcifer question just a bit slightly about his real feelings towards the girl.
Calcifer was nearly asleep since it was late. But he suddenly sensed someone moving around in the castle. Since it was a familiar presence, he assumed that it was Sophie just coming down for a glass of water.
Little did he know, he saw Lilian at the staircase, clutching her pillow, slightly illuminated by the faint light that Clacifer gave out.
"Li-lily? What are you doing down here in the middle of the night?" He asked as she hid shyly behind the staircase pillar.
"I-i had a nightmare..." She answered timidly.
"Oh...well, you know that nightmares are just mean little dream demons that mess with you during the night" calcifer said bluntly and when he saw that her face dimmed when she heard that, he face palmed himself for scaring her.
"You know....you can stay..by me. I'all make sure the demons don't get to you" he said assuringly.
She smiled slightly in relief and came up to the hearth. She jumped onto the chair and scooted close to the fire. She lay her head on the side of the hearth, her face close to the fire.
She felt nice and warm and safe.
She smiled before she drifted back off to sleep "thank you Calcifer..."
Calcifer burned a bit pink from her sudden whisper. The light that reflected off of her face really defined her features and although she was only about 10 at the time, Calcifer knew that she was very pretty.
Calcifer soon fell asleep himself, with a smile on his face.
Ever since that night, Lilian would often come down in the middle of the night to be around Calcifer during stormy nights or whenever she had nightmares. Sometimes she would go down just to warm herself up.
She would soon fall asleep by Calcifer's hearth, with his fire flickering softly in the night.
