Weeks has passed and life was going normally. Every now and then, the children were delivered a letter from Michael and Jane and sometimes, Mary Poppins would get one from Jack. It was Tuesday and the kids waited at the door for the postman to arrive. On days like this, they were always up earlier than usual, excited to receive a letter. Impatiently on the look out for the post man, Georgie began to hop in place.

"When is he coming?" Georgie complained

"Be patient, Georgie." Mary Poppins said "he'll come, don't worry."

"But what if he got lost?! Or worse! We don't have mail!" Georgie whined

"You do this every time" Annabel sighed "how can the postman be lost in this small town? And father always sends mail or he'll tell us in advance! Plus, Aunt Jane of Jack would send one too!"

"Right right..." Georgie grumbled

"Can we eat breakfast?" Michael asked, his stomach rumbling

"Yes, eat first. If you distract yourself, the postman will arrive quicker" Mary Poppins gestured to the kitchen table

Gathering round, they quickly ate their breakfast. After a couple of minutes, they soon forgot about the postman and the letters until they heard a knock on the door.

"Mail!" Georgie yelled, dashing up from his seat and crashing his chair to the ground

"Manners." Mary Poppins shook her head

"Oh... Sorry!" Picking up his chair, he slowly made his way to the front door.

Outside the postman smiled at him "good morning young fella!"

"Good morning Mr!"

"Right. We've got a letter for Annabel, John and Georgie Banks."

"That's us!" Georgie clapped excitedly as he was handed the envelope

"And we've also got a letter for Mary Poppins from the same sender."

"Thank you!" Georgie closed the door behind him and held the envelopes in his hand excitedly

"There's a letter for Mary Poppins too from father?" Annabel asked

"Strange" Mary Poppins shrugged "open them up then"

Opening the one addressed to the children first, the kids were delighted to see more doodles from their father.

"Dear children,

How I long to see you again. My heart waits for the time I can hold you all in my arms again!

We're all doing fine here, Winter has been really tough but we've survived so far!

Please send a letter to us quick!

Love, father"

Closing it up, they handed Mary Poppins her letter.

"This letter was sent on a different date..." Annabel said reading the date "ours was sent the day before"

"I wonder why they had to send two letters..." John wondered

"We'll see" Mary Poppins said, opening it up gently

"Dear, Mary Poppins

We have urgent news and we can't afford a telegram right now so I hope this doesn't reach you too late.

In London city, a bombing happened and unfortunately Jack was caught in it. He has been brought to the hospital but he's unconscious and his conditions are rather unstable.

By the time you get this letter, it'll be at least 2 weeks in the hospital. If we get any further notice, we'll inform you straight away.

Please don't worry, he'll be okay!
Me and Jane visit him often!

Michael Banks."

Collapsing to her knees, Mary Poppins felt her heart drop within her. A rush of worry surrounded her, her mind wandering off to the worst possible outcomes.

"Mary Poppins! Are you alright?" Annabel ran towards her and held her

"Yes yes... I'm fine"

Suddenly, a strange feeling began lurking up inside her. Beginning to feel nauseous, she stood up and ran to the bathroom.

"Get her some water!" Annabel ordered to her brothers

Feeling sick and uneasy, Mary Poppins sat on the bathroom floor. Getting a hold of her senses, she barely made it back to the kitchen table where John was waiting with a glass of water.

"Are you really alright?" Annabel asked, her eyes full of worry

"It must be the shock..." burying her head in her hands, Mary Poppins couldn't stop thinking about Jack and how much pain he must be in

"Jack will be fine..." Georgie whispered as if he could read her mind "he's strong... he knows now to leave you!"

"You should go to bed and rest Mary Poppins! You're beginning to look very pale..." Annabel suggested

"I can't go to bed now... it's only morning"

"Normally, you know what's good for us but right now you're talking absolute nonsense! Please rest! We'll write a letter to say we got the news so please... go to bed" Annabel helped her out of the chair

"Do you want us to go the doctor?" John asked

"No... I'll be fine in a few hours"

"Well, Okay..." John sighed

"I don't think she will be fine" Georgie mumbled

"Me neither" John replied

Annabel soon returned and picked up the letter from the table and re read it.

"Mary Poppins must be really shocked..." Annabel frowned "I hope Jack is alright"

"I hope so too..." the siblings all sighed not knowing what to do

Taking a pen and paper, they quickly wrote a response and placed it into the envelope.

"John, bring this to the post office and ask if they can send it quickly" Annabel handed him the envelope

"Alright."

Waiting, John soon came back after 30 minutes.

"I sent it... they said it'll be mailed off tomorrow"

"We all need to stay strong" Annabel said "Mary Poppins is clearly very distraught, we have to be there for her."

"Jack needs to keep fighting... let's hope this doesn't end in a tragedy..." John muttered

"Don't say that..." Georgie whimpered, close to tears

"Hey hey, don't cry" Annabel squeezed her little brother tightly "we can do this."
