Parties. You would think that by now I would've learned my lesson. But here I am, standing in the kitchen of some stranger that goes to King. I came to the party with Petra, a fellow rat as they say. She insisted that I go as it would help boost my reputation. Normally I wouldn't care about that kind of stuff, but Iwas quick to learn that at this school, you need it. I filled one of those red plastic cups with what I believe is fruit punch. Standing in the kitchen isn't exactly my idea of fun but I told Marcus I would wait here. After about 20 minutes of waiting, I finally gave up and decided to venture out into the living room where I found Lex and Billy hanging out on the couch. I called out their names to get their attention, but the music was booming so loudly that they couldn't hear me. Inching a little closer, Lex finally noticed me standing there and invited me to sit with them. I plopped down next to them and Lex started rambling about god knows what but all I could focus on was Marcus. He did, in fact, show up to the party. He was talking to Maria which was a little surprising that Chico even let him get that close to her. I was pulled out of my thoughts by Billy grabbing my shoulder."Everything okay? You're looking a little down tonight." He asked in a yelling voice. It's far from a common thing for people to ask me if I am okay which is why I don't know how to act when they do. I give him the classic "I am just tired, and I should probably be heading home because I needed to study" line. Stupid move. It's only 8:30 and he knows that everything I just said was a lie. I quickly jumped up and began squeezing my way through the crowd of sweaty people to try and reach the front door. I guess I caught his attention because Marcus followed me outside. I tried my best to ignore him, but he has always been faster than me when it comes to walking. Of course, he tells me that he's so sorry because he forgot I was going to show up. His apology went on for a while but we all know that the punch I was drinking had a lot of alcohol in it, so my attention span was close to zero. My mind started to wonder and then my eyes lost interest and followed my thoughts. I scanned the entire yard while he was going on and on until I locked eyes with Billy. He was another one who had followed me outside. For some reason, I couldn't pull my focus away. It was like I was frozen. Billy started making his way over to us. Ugh, he probably thought it was a cry for help. "What's going on, you two? The party is inside." He jokes around as per usual, but I've always been able to tell the difference between his "I'm genuinely trying to be funny" jokes and his "Haha there's too much tension here and I don't like it" jokes. Marcus tries to brush him off, but I figured it would be best if I just went home. My mind was starting to overload, and I just knew the night wouldn't end well if I stayed. "I really should be getting home. Parties aren't exactly my thing." I tell them which gets Marcus to leave but Billy remains still. "I don't know everything about him, but he doesn't seem like the best fit for you. Not that I know what the best fit for you is or...I'm sorry. That was lame. I'll stop talking now." He spoke so fast I almost didn't catch the words. I am super awkward when it comes to pretty much anything, but I am not sure what to say so I just wrap my arms around him and hide my face in the crease of his neck. He was quick to hug me back and we just kind of stayed there for what seemed like an eternity. I wasn't complaining though. I was on the verge of breaking down and he held me together. I'd just recently found out about his crush on me. A part of me was glad though. Billy has never really been someone who I've imagined myself with, but I wouldn't hesitate to give him a chance if the time ever came around. Finally, I pulled away from his grip and all I could do was thank him. He told me it was no problem and that he would always be there if I ever needed him. Maybe he's a hidden gem. He's not your typical Prince Charming but maybe hecould be my knight with a green mohawk.
