Loaded down with some of the supplies we were going to need for the weekend, I trudged down one of the many little slopes on the way to my 'secret' campsite. Once again I had to stop and look behind me to see how far behind Chloe had gotten and sighed for the millionth time.

"Hurry up Chole your taking forever."

"Calm down! Sheesh I'm going as fast as I can."

"Obviously it’s not fast enough" I murmured under my breath.

I don't understand how Chole can have such a nice body. She's 5'8” well toned, curvy figure, a perfect tan, clear skin, beautiful waist length wavy dirty blond hair and she doesn't work out at all. She can literally lay around eat junk food and not gain weight. There are occasions that I envy her build because I’m 5’5”, average build, pale, I tend to break out often, I have shoulder length brown hair. I blend into crowds while she stands out. However, I am the one who uses my brain; Chloe just doesn’t have a strong motive for caring about anything other than how she looks and the latest trend that she has to remember her dad to buy for her. I blame her family money and how she gets everything she wants because she’s spoiled.

I had to wait a full five minutes before Chole caught up to where I was standing.

“How much farther do we have to go?” Chole inquired.

“Not very far, but at this rate we are going to get there by nightfall if we’re lucky. I don’t know if you’ve thought about this but we still have to go back to the car to get the rest of the supplies.”

“I know then instead of standing here lecturing me you should keep walking so that we can get somewhere soon.”

I just shook my head and kept walking. After stopping a few more times for Chole to catch up we finally made it to the campsite. When we moved passed the trees and entered the clearing we both stood taking in the beauty of it. I hadn’t been to my campsite in years and several things had changed but not much. The trees had grown there were small trees growing. The bend in the river was the same flowing beautifully.

I had tears in my eyes just remembering all the good times I had spent with my dad here. They passed through my head quickly snags of moments here and there all rushing through my head so fast I was getting overwhelmed.  I dropped the bags I was carrying at my feet and slowly sat down trying to regain my composure without success because I felt my hot tears start streaming down my face, my throat closes up and most disgusting of all my nose felt like a waterfall. Even without the mirror I knew that I looked awful my face was most likely blotchy, and my nose probably looked like a giant tomato. I stuck my tongue out and a hot salty tear landed on it.

“What’s wrong Janet?” Chole asked me.

“Nothing” I said.

“I don’t believe you. I’ve known you too long to get fooled by that. Something must be terribly wrong if your crying.”

“Seriously I’m fine, it’s just that I was remembering all the good times I had with my dad here.”

“Oh!”

“Yeah. Well just leave the bags here we have to go back to the car for the rest of the stuff.”

“Alright.”

We returned to the car got the rest of the stuff and returned to the camp without event, unless you count all the times I had to wait for Chole to catch up. By some angel of good will we made it to the campsite with some sunlight left and I went straight to setting up the tent.

“Hey, Chole can you go and look for fallen branches for firewood.”

“Okay.”

I learned the hard way to never ask Chole to do anything related to setting up camp because she came back with a bunch of green branches.

“Chole what’s this?”

“It’s the branches you asked me to get.”

“Why did you get green ones?”

“Because they look pretty. Why else?”

“Chole these branches don’t make good firewood they just give off tons of smoke and no heat. Unless you want to be cold tonight we have to go back and get actual firewood.”

“Do we have to?” she whined.

“Come on I finished setting up the tent I’ll come with you to get the firewood.”

“Alrighty.”
