After the group had left the river, they continued until they found the boundary of Fort Henric. Fort Henric is where they were to get transported to Oklahoma and then to New York. Maggie was the first one to spot the sign. “You guys we made it!” She jumped with joy and everyone ran to the entrance. The gates were wide open,

“They must have seen us when we were further up the road,” Chris said gladly walking into the fort. The group continued toward the buildings in the back where they laid Reilly down on a bench.

“Alright you get some rest, we are going to take a look around see if we can find a medic or a doctor to patch you up,” Jayda smiled at him. “We are finally gonna get out of this hell hole.” She walked outside and her footsteps slowly died away. Reilly sat there in silence for several moments, then heard a sound that came from the other side of the building.

“You... you need to leave,” Reilly nearly jumped from the bench he was on because of the sound of the faint, dying voice. He made his way over to a marine  further into the building that was covered in blood. “You have to leave... before they come back...you have to go now.” The soldier slowly died off after repeating the same words. “You have to leave... before they come back... save yourselves.” The broken body slowly stopped all movement. Reilly knew exactly what had happened and why they didn’t see anyone when they had arrived. He made his way out of the building and started yelling for the others. No response from anyone, the fort was dead silent. Reilly hurried to the other buildings, checking one by one for any of his friends. Reilly had made it to the others side before he found his friends. They were in a bunker toward the back where all the the firearms and medical supplies were stored. They were looting as much as they could carry. Maggie had ran into Reilly at the door way.

“Oh I was just about to come and get you,” There was a panic in her voice, “ The base was overrun before we got here! We ha-”

“I know,” Reilly interrupted her, “A marine told me before he died.” Reilly paused remembering the man coated in blood. “ He told me that we need to get out of here before they come back.”

“Who?” Chris was heard from the back of the room. “ Who are ‘they’?” Chris handed Reilly a M16 and a strap of at least twelve extra mags.

“Who do you think, the zombies of course. The ZVC wouldn’t have done this.” Reilly was panicking, “I need my bag now!” Within moments Madisyn was over next to him.

“It’s already filled,” she handed him his bag and got some sort of shot out, “give me your arm,”Reilly obeyed and stuck out his right arm. Madisyn injected the shot into one of his bigger blood veins.

“What is this?” Reilly cringed at the pain of the big needle piercing his arm,

“It’s to accelerate your healing process,” Madisyn pulled the needle out of his arm, “We can't afford you to be hurt for very much longer.”  She cleaned and stashed the needle in the back of her bag, “ I have more and about three different health kits in here and four more of those shots,” she smiled and grabbed the Uzi she had put on the ground.

“Alright, everyone got their stuff?” Reilly called from the door.

“I got my AK,” Chris called from the back

“I got my sub,” Maggie replied.

“And I got my Shotgun,” Jayda walked over to the door to join Reilly and Madisyn.

“Alright,”Reilly stood up straight.”I didn’t hear anything when I was looking for you guys, but be prepared for a fight.”Reilly looked outside and back, “ Because we might have some company later.” Everyone slowly made their way out into the open.  Reilly scouted the area ahead, “ Alright, we’re clear,” He started toward the gate.

“No, wait Reilly,” Chris grabbed his arm and pulled him back behind the spot they were hiding at. Chris was too late, a flood of zombies were coming through the gate and heading straight toward them.

“ Not this again,” Reilly lifted up his gun and started firing while retreating back to the others.

“This is what you get for trying to be a badass,” Maggie grabbed the back of Reilly’s shirt and threw him behind the others . Reilly fell backward, got back up and everyone opened fire on the wave entering the abandoned fort, but the horde advanced unfazed.

“Everyone back to the armory,”Jayda yelled over the deafening sound of gunfire and with moments everyone ran back from where they came,

“Maggie, get ahead and help us out when we catch up,” Reilly pushed her ahead of everyone else.

“We are going to take a detour, go!”Chris and the others started to run in a different direction. Maggie nodded and sprinted for the armory. She threw the doors open and looked for anything that would help. Meanwhile the others were on the other side of the fort,

“You think she is ready for us to come back,” Reilly was panting alongside Jayda and Madisyn.

“I don't know, but we don’t have  a choice,” Madisyn glanced over her shoulder, “They are catching up, so we got to go,” The group started back toward the bunker.  A few zombies were extremely close and Chris behind the others by a few steps. Madisyn pulled out her hand gun that Reilly gave her and shot behind Chris. Right as one was about to grab him, Madisyn shot it down. “ Get up here Chris!” Madisyn reached out and pulled him toward her, “ Come on get ahead of us!” She shoved him ahead of her. They turned a corner and saw Maggie motioning into the bunker.

“Everyone inside and grab one!” Everyone rushed in and saw four loaded RPGs in line. Maggie slammed the door behind them, “ Alright I’m gonna open the door and everyone is gonna shoot okay?” Maggie held the door closed, “Ready, FIRE’” Maggie dove from the door and the missiles went flying out. After firing, everyone ducked down and waited for the consecutive explosions to be over. Jayda was the first one to look back at the door way. There was decapitated body parts laying everywhere. The others got up and followed Jayda to the door. The air smelled of blood and there was a red tint to the dust cloud outside. “ Damn, we’re good,” Reilly and Chris were celebrating over their small victory.

“No,” Maggie turned to the others, “it’s called luck, we all nearly died,” Jayda had a grim look on her face.

“She’s right,” she looked toward the two guys, “ Chris would have been dead if it wasn’t for Maddy’s good shot, you guys are still reckless.”

“Yeah, well that’s just our style.” Reilly and Chris smiled, “ We’re guys, what do you expect?”

“I expect you to stop being imbeciles and actually take this shit seriously.” Jayda snapped, stomping out of the bunker,

Chris raised his eyebrows. “She’s pissed.” he looked over at Reilly,

“Well, we are kind of jackasses,” Reilly rubbed the back of his neck. “and everyone is gonna suffer from it,” he glanced outside to see Jayda pacing back and forth. She was running her hands through her hair while her weapon was laying on the ground.

“Well,” Chris looked again at the others, “ I guess that we should start being more careful then,” he looked at Reilly for an answer,

“ Yeah ,” Reilly sighed, “I guess so.”
