Soft, pink lips. Beautiful brown eyes that fail to hide behind the curtain of pain. That is what Jimin sees as he gazes in the mirror. A bruise begins to form under his left eye, causing a memory to flood back to him.
"Haha! Stupid nerd!" A voice shouted down at Jimin as he lay on the ground, crumpled in defeat.
He looked up pleadingly. "Please, don't do this...."
The bully sneered, "Why? This is so much fun!"
Jimin closed his eyes as he felt two fists begin to pummel his small body. Stinging pain thundered through him as a fist made contact with his face, then his stomach. A shoed foot began to kick him viciously. He could've fought back. Could've just done this kids homework in the first place. But all he can do is lie on the ground like an obedient dog and take the beating. The last punch sent him gasping for breath, now in the fetal position.
"Should've done what I told you to. Next time I won't be so nice."
Jimin heard the bully's footsteps slowly fade away as angry tears welled up in his once beautifully happy eyes.
Jimin shakes his head as if it will make the memory of getting bullied earlier in the day go away. He has never been bullied before, not like this anyway. It was so harsh over something so unimportant. "Why me," He said sadly as he looked at his bruised face one last time in the schools boys restroom mirror. Jimin slunk out of the restroom like a cat that had just gotten wet by rain. Kids snickered as he walked down the hallway. Nothing really bothered him if it wasn't physical, but this time, it was different. This time they were laughing because he had been willingly beaten up. He felt ashamed more than anything. Shame took over the external pain, the aching bruises that must be all over his skin by now. He kept his eyes glued to the floor as he walked, attempting to ignore everything and everyone. Not paying attention, he walked straight into someone else, a loud thud following after. Sharp pain etched through his back when he realized he was the one who had caused the thud.
"Sorry. I wasn't paying attention." A soft voice called to him.
Jimin looked up, realizing who this voice belonged to. Jeon Jungkook. He was one of the most popular boys in school, and one of the most mean. He has a gangsters reputation, which had always made Jimin want to avoid him. Not that he would be able to talk to someone like him anyway. The longer he looked up at this gangster, though, the more handsomeness he noticed. His face was so beautiful up close. Huge brown eyes. Puffy black hair. Perfectly pale skin. He was obviously younger than Jimin, but not by much. He scraped his eyes across every inch of Jungkook that he could see from his position on the floor.
God, was he hot. Jimin was so mesmerized that it took him a few moments to realize Jungkook was now crouched on the hallway floor next to him. He jolted up at his sudden realization and blushed in embarrassment.
"I- um no no um I am um--"
"Whoa, are you alright?" Jungkook cut him off from his stammering. "What happened to your eye?" The taller male rose to his feet, towering over Jimin.
Jimin gathered up all of the composure he had left to stiffly answer, "Yes I am fine. Thanks." He knew his face must be red as a tomato by now, so he turned to continue walking. A hand latched onto his shoulder with great force to stop him.
Jungkook raised his other hand to Jimin's chin, forcing him to look up into his eyes. "What's your name?"
"Why?"
"You seem really nice. I should know the name of someone I should protect. Plus you're pretty cute."
Jimin blushed and ripped his gaze away from Jungkook's dark eyes. "Park Jimin..." He said quietly.
"Jimin?"
The shorter male nodded as he kept his eyes away from the beauty that was still holding onto his shoulder.
"Who did this to you." His question sounded so flat that it seemed more like a demand rather than a question.
No words would form from Jimin's shocked mind, so he responded with a tiny shrug.
Jungkook sighed. "Fine." And walked off with his hands tucked coolly in his pockets, leaving a very stunned Jimin in the schools now empty hallway.
The next day, Jimin walked onto the school grounds with slouched shoulders and dark circles under his eyes. His usual happy self was nowhere to be found today. Maybe it was the heavy clouds that hung overhead. Or perhaps just the knowledge that a beating was going to come soon. As he rounded the corner into the hallway in which his locker was in, he forced his eyes downwards. The bullies were going to be there waiting hungrily. Small giggles could be heard nearby along with the words "nerd" and "everyone hates you". He let out a shaky sigh as he reached his locker, bringing together all the courage he could muster to get his things and leave. That's all he needs to do. Just this simple task. But before he can even begin putting in his combination, he feels a hand grab his shoulders and turn him around, slamming him against the hard metal.
"Lookie here, Lau, our little slave is back to finish our homework for us!" A tall boy hissed to his bully friend.
Lau snickered. "Yeah, or maybe today he's just our punching bag!"
"I like the sound of that better, actually."
Lau raised his clenched fist into the air. Jimin prepared himself by closing his eyes and stiffening his small frame. He let himself slide slowly to the ground in hopes it will hurt less if he cooperates. The cool floor greeted his sore body as he fully sank down. He felt the hands leave his shoulders and shuffling sounded in his ears. After waiting a moment with no pain, he heard someone speak.
"You will never bother him again, or else." A deep voice growled.
Jimin opened his eyes and looked up. The two bullies were nodding feverishly before they hurriedly walked down the hall and out the building. He looked at the reason they had run away, Jungkook. His handsome face has a mean scowl upon it, making him look full of malice. To Jimin's surprise, Jungkook directed his angry gaze towards him before giving a cheeky smile.
"You okay?" He asked.
Jimin was too shocked to say anything, so he nodded in response.
Jungkook sighed. "Looks like you're going to need my protection...but only on one condition."
The shorter looked up at him, intrigued.
"Go on a date with me," Jungkook replied with a wink. He held a hand out to Jimin to help him out of his slumped position on the cold floor.
Jimin wondered if he should accept him by taking his hand, or refuse and get away from this gangster for good. Maybe getting beat up would be better than worrying about a gang member boyfriend. Although...Jungkook was very handsome and seemed to have a good heart despite his reputation. Who knew such a hard decision would simply be whether to take someone's hand or not?
