What a strange announcement. Why would they ever replace the teachers and principles with artificial intelligences? I look to my right where Jaydon sits in the desk beside me tapping his pencil against the Nanomite desk. He looks over at me and gives a questionable glance and I shrug not sure how I should reply. Suddenly two school guards march in through the door and pull out a notepad.
"We're looking for Elizabeth Torian..." Said one of the guards. They pull out an identity scanner. Liz looks at me panic spreading over her face like fire on gasoline. The scanner beeps web it lands on Liz and a guard slips the scanner in his pocket while the other pushed past students and desks and pries Liz away from her desk. They drag her out with her screaming tears flowing down her pale cheeks. The bell rings and we go to our classes.
Everything goes as its supposed to just like every other school day in a Junior High School other than the fact there are tons of those guards dressed in white carrying electric weaponry around for undisciplined students. The next week. Jay, Katelyn and I head to our social studies class after lunch.
"So, did we have homework at all last night?" Jaydon asks thumbing through his papers.
"Um, no I don't believe we did." I reply.
"Well he should know. Or at least write it down somewhere." Katie says rolling her eyes. Jaydon glares over at her and slams his binder closed. We walk into class and Mr. Mathias switches on the projector. The projector shows the new school symbol. Unlike the last 50 years this schools been around the Boyertown symbol has always been a bear. Now its some electric blue house. Kinda weird to be honest. Then the video starts.
"Hello. I am your school president Ms. Marzia. Corana and I are here to announce today, tests will begun for all seventh grade students. Remember, I believe in you. You are advanced. You are worthy of being part of the schools. Don't disappoint us. We are Pristine. We are Perfect. We are Advanced. Good luck, my Advanced Students.
After about 4 hours of sitting in the social studies class doing mostly nothing but drawing and reading the latest hit novels while the students take their tests, the bell rings and I head to my locker.
"Hey, you ready to go?" Jaydon asks slinging his backpack over his shoulder giving me a sly smile.
"Mhm, just a second..." I say grabbing my black drawing pad and setting it in my tote. I shut my locker and walk beside Jaydon out the large metallic doors of the school. I decide to walk home with him and maybe finish a bit of homework. He grabs a key from his pocket and unlocks the front door and we step inside.
"Want something to drink like water or whatever?" I hear him say as he walks into the kitchen and pulls out a glass.
"Water please." I say giving him a smile. He winks and pours a glass and sends it flying down the granite table. I stop it before it can fall off the countertop.
"So, what do you think happened to Liz?" Jaydon asks suspiciously. I take a sip from my glass and set it down again.
"I'm mot sure. I hadn't seen her the rest of the day. I think they took her to that conditioning room for immature students." I say.
"But what for? She never did anything wrong!" He says slamming his fist on the table causing my glass to tremble. Then it hit me. While we were on the bus.
"The security cameras..." I say out loud. Jaydon looks back over at me from his bottle of soda and gives me a confused glare.
"What the hell are you even saying?" He asks in a mocking tone.
"I mean the cameras on the bus! They could hear our every word! They heard what she was saying..." I murmur picking up the glass and taking another long drink. "I hope they didn't hurt her..." I say. Jaydon walks over to me and sets his hand on my shoulder.
"She's fine. Hey, how about we do some of our homework to get our minds off of it, okay? She's probably safe at home." He says reassuringly. I smile and dip my head.
"Alright she's okay." I say taking one final sip of the water.
