The snow came down in unappealing clumps; the kind of weather where you could see your own breath. It sort of reminded me of my hell hound back home. Salem breathed ice, unlike most of the fire breathing hounds. A graduation gift from the academy. I checked my watch. I couldn't wait to get back. I've never liked this half of the world, but business is business. The flight here was exhausting. Although I can't complain too much, having access to the King's private plane. I felt exhaustion creeping through my body. There was a desperate urge to close my eyes and rest, but I had a job to do.
At least the car was warm. A heavy sigh left my lips as I felt the limousine come to a screeching halt. Don't get me wrong, not all humans are bad drivers, but this was one was clearly not capable of maneuvering a car gracefully. I glanced at him through the rear- view mirror. It was clear that he was terrified. I saw the fear in his dull brown eyes and I'm sure he saw my flaky gold green ones do a 360.
I grabbed my two-day pack and got out of his car, thanking the man silently with a head nod. My surroundings were grim. Chicago was rusting metal covered with a shawl of fluorescent lights. I didn't honestly know where I was, so I scoured my pack and pulled my navigator out. It was time to get the mission over with and track James.
