Chapter 14

It has been a little over a week since my birthday and Connor has kept his promise to run with me. Gabriel has yet to show. Once again he is avoiding me as much as possible. It bugs me that he does this but I'm getting used to it. Still I wish he would pick a side. He either wants to be my friend or he doesn't. It's whatever at this point. I'm determined that tonight will be a night of fun because today is the day of the dance.

I am eagerly reminded of this when I awake to Luna bursting in the door in declaration with a poorly crafted spell. "Up and up sleepily head for you will see! Today is the day where our beauty will sparkle and shine with glee! We will dance away the night and everything will be made back to right!" She leaps onto the bed pausing in her joy. She looks down at me slightly bummed. "Winny how am I supposed to jump on your bed when you have it set to Stonehenge?"

"You're not." I tell her pulling the blanket over my head making her lose her balance. She flips back landing softly on the balls of her feet.

Not phasing her in the least she continues. "Winny you need to get up!"

"The sun has yet to rise and you expect me to?" Normally it's not an issue but I was up reading all night again. Some days you just know it's going to be a 'doesn't play well with others' kind of day.

"We have go! Lots to do! The boys take like ten minutes! We are an all-day event." She rips the sheet out from under me with enough force to make me spin out of the bed onto the floor like a limp noodle. "Upside daisy." She smiles gleefully.

I reach for my pillow and coil back up closing my eyes. "That's not the saying. And at most it would take us two hours not a whole day Luna."

"Now Winny this is me you're talking about." She crawls across the bed plopping down beside me. "We need to go for a spa day!"

My eyes bug as I shoot up nearly shouting. "No we do not!"

"Oh come on we both know how this works. You say 'it's too much; it's not necessary' yada yada yada. But when it comes down to it." Luna points to herself tickled pink. "I win."

I drop back down placing my arm across my eyes in exhaustion. "Yeah that is how it usually goes but not this time. You cannot convince me that I need all of that extra stuff for one night." I remove my arm regarding her until she grasps my point. "I'm going and we will have fun but I am not going to a spa."

She begins to pout. "But I want to go there even if you won't partake."

"Then take Charles." I tell her laying back.

"I can't he's showing a house out of town and won't be back till late. Connor has another meeting with the pack and Gabe." She mulls it over. "Well I'm not sure what he is doing today but really could you see either one of them at a spa?" She makes a face.

"I don't think Connor would mind too much waiting for you if there's a cute masseuse to entertain him." I laugh but I'm slightly jealous with my own thought.

"Don't be silly he might talk a big game but he only has eyes for you. You're the only one he has ever staked a claim and trust me he has options." I gave her a questing look and she clarifies. "He's an Alpha Winny. What girl wouldn't want him?"

That's a good question but a better one is why is it taking me so long to decide? I know that I like him. He is strong, funny, protective, and dangerously handsome. What's not to like? Oh that's right, even a pack of wolves isn't enough to protect me from Kain. It would not end well for anyone.

"So?" Luna interrupts my thoughts.

"So what?" I ask attempting to get out of my dark mood.

"Will you go with me? I can go by myself but that's no fun. You won't even have to get anything done if you don't want to. Just wait for me." She pleads on her knees. "Please?"
