What is Depression?

For those who do not understand what depression is, let me give you a brief rundown. A lot of people who do not have depression, think it is just sadness. This is incorrect. Yes, sadness is one emotion, but there are many other symptoms. For example, emptiness has a huge impact on your life. Not just calm, like not happy but not sad, it is pure hollowness. You feel like emotions don't exist. Another is self esteem. You feel worthless and every negative remark thrown at you, you remember it for a while, until you believe it yourself. You get so low that you just sit in your room and do one of three things. You either just sit and stare at something, cry, or listen to music (while doing one of the the first two options). It varies from person to person, so this is just my experience. Some people go as far as harming themselves or having thoughts of suicide (get help if you get to that point). People won't just tell you, " hey, I need help because I have/think I have depression, can you get me a therapy appointment set up?". Sorry, but it doesn't work like that. We (people with anxiety) won't. This is because we feel like we are burdening you with our feelings. So we hide it. Behind a fake smile, a positive attitude, and a good personality. People say we are weird, happy all the time, insult us, take advantage of us, but we are too afraid to speak up because we believe their lies. We are just dramatic, we overreact to everything. We think we are overreacting so we take the negative comments that plow us deeper into depression, slowly drowning in our own pain and suffering. Internally dead and empty, with no feeling.
