"Angel, it's time to wake up and get ready for school." My Mom says as she opens my bedroom door. I flipped over facing the wall, not wanting to wake up. Mom came in and threw the blankets off of me. "Come on, I said its time." Then I sat up and got dressed and went to the living room. I ate breakfast, took my sister to her bus stop, got in the car when she left, and was dropped off at school.
I looked at the school already bored. Its my first day back at Mica Peak High School and my last year there because I will be a graduating Senior. I sighed and walked to the doors of the school only to be stopped by a large crowd inside. 'Its probably the whole school getting their schedules for the First Trimester.' I thought as I waited for my name to be called. When I was called, I was greeted by the school's secretaries, Jenny and Marlene. "You ready for your last year of high school, Angel?" Jenny asked.
"Oh yeah. I'm totally ready for the constant stress and high expectations from the adults of the school." I joked but as usual, she didn't find it funny. I grabbed my schedule and walked away from the crowd to clear my head. I stood next to a support beam, looking over my classes, when a voice spoke to me. "Ahem. Excuse me but you're in my spot." I looked up and smirked. Standing in front of me is my best friend/sister Erin and her boyfriend Zac.
"Hey guys. Long time no see." I said as I hugged Erin. "So how was your summer?" Zac asked me. "It was boring as usual, but it got better towards the end I suppose." I replied. "I want to see your classes!" Erin said as she took my paper and read over them. "Yikes! Are you trying to cut my hand holy cheese-sticks!" I said.
"We have Second and Fourth Period together!" She shouted, totally ignoring me and jumping up and down. Zac took the paper out of her hand, reading through my classes, and said, "We have Second, Third, and Fourth together." I smiled, but then my smile faltered when I saw a boy with blue hair staring at me. He was attractive for an Emo kid. I was starting to fall for him, and that's a bad thing.
"Something wrong, Angel?" Zac asked, looking behind him and Erin stopped jumping. He must have seen the blue haired boy because he said "oh" and turned back to me worriedly. "Guys, I've been hurt a lot this year, which made my heart turn to dust, and I do not want to deal with others that will be fake and hurt me." I said, trying not to let my tough facade break. Instead I took my schedule and walked away with my head down.
'Okay so first is Science,' I thought. 'Second is Art, Third is Math, and Fourth is Gym.' I walked into the Science classroom and sat in the corner of the room by the computers. Everyone started showing up a few minutes later, and sat together in groups. Shannon isn't gonna be too happy about that. I leaned down to take a notebook and a pencil out of my backpack.
When I sat back up, I was a little surprised to see someone sitting next to me. The person wasn't there, but just their stuff. I waited for Shannon and the new student to arrive, then got bored of waiting so I started drawing. After what felt like an eternity, I was interrupted by a voice. "That's interesting." I look over and see that boy with the blue hair I saw earlier. "Mind if I sit with you? You look lonely here by yourself." He said. "Fine." I grumbled as he sat down by me.
"My name's Alexander Graves, by the way. What's your name beautiful?" He asked me and held out his hand. "Angel Knight." I muttered and took his hand. I thought we were going to shake hands, but instead he flipped my hand over and kissed it. I just sat there motionless but then I felt the tiniest flicker of warmth where my heart should have been. I ignored it and watched as Shannon walked into the room.
"Hey guys, sorry. Kamiel needed to talk to the teachers about what the week is going to be like." Shannon said. "So for this week, we have 45 minute classes, and then we have an assembly, then play games until school is over for the day." Everyone muttered in excitement and I leaned backward in my chair groaning. "You alright?" Alexander asked, looking at me. "I hate socializing." I answered and he laughed at me. I swear it was, I hate to admit, the most amazing sound I've ever heard. I smiled a little.
"So, would you mind if I looked at your classes? Also are we considered friends now?" He asked and I nodded, giving him my schedule. "Yeah I guess we can be friends." I answered, then went back to drawing. My picture was of two hands holding burning embers, the hands representing someone bold enough to hold the embers which are the remains of my heart. Alexander whistled next to me. "What is it?" I asked him and looked at my classes thinking there was something wrong with them. "We have all day together." He wiggled his eyebrows mischievously and I groaned and lightly punched him in the shoulder.
