Marinette quickly jumped out of the conversation , not noticing the burning look of awkwardness on Adrien's face. If Lila has come up with another lie, she did not know why she would make such an absurd lie about her and Adrien dating.
Especially if Lila was the one who liked him. She rushed to the cafeteria, running into her best friend.
"So is it true? You're dating Adrien! I'm so ha-" she was interrupted by a sudden liar. "Yup! It's true!" said Lila, with a grin on her face. Adrien was behind her, urging for her to cover his face.
"I am not dating Adrien, Alya. I just don't know why Lila came up with such a lie." "Well," Alya said, "Go talk to him, see what this is all about." "You're right, I should just go talk to him."
Marinette then made her way over to Adrien, where he was listening to music with Nino. "H-Hey, uh, can I talk to you?" She then said patting him on the shoulder. Nino gave a quick nod to him, then they both made their way over another side of the cafeteria.
"Look, about what Lila said-" He then started but was interrupted "It's okay, really, I don't know why Lila would make up a lie like that." A few seconds of awkwardness passed but only seemed like a lurking hour of distress.

"We're just friends though, right?" Marinette asked quietly. Adrien was caught by surprise, realizing she might not have read the note. And how she probably would never be able to return her feelings for him. At least she values our friendship, and out friendship is the greatest gift of all.

Adrien then smiled, and agreed to call this whole thing off. Although Adrien might have seemed fine about all of this, he was a bit upset of coming to the fact that Marinette might never like him. ___________________________________ Adrien then walked home with mixed emotions, still confused but happy. He was about to open the door to his car when he heard Lila from behind. "Lila, I'm sorry but I don't want to talk right now," "especially not you" he murmured. "Look I just wanted to apologize for every lie I've said," she continued, "But you know, maybe I helped you see that there are much better girls than Marinette, and much less clumsy ones." She kept on talking about how she would always support him, when she noticed the hurt look on his face. That was not part of my plan... "Lila! Marinette's my friend, and if you're going to talk about her that way, then I'd rather not be friends with you." "Can you at least help me with my homework at your-" "No I won't help you with your homework at my house! Nathalie already got into much trouble last time." And with that note, he opened the door to the car and furiously shut it closed. I can't believe how ignorant some people can be. It's not fair, to Marinette or me... I feel like some people don't even care about my feelings. He didn't know why, but he thought about Ladybug the whole ride home.
