Austen, this is Zayne. Zayne, Austen." Skyler introduced.Austen scoffed. "I know him."
Zayne just smiled faintly. "I know."
"So." Austen started. "Are you finally trying to get some friends?"
Zayne jabbed a finger at Skyler.
Austen snickered. "Good luck with that. You're at the bottom, you know." Then he stalked away.
"That wasn't a good first attempt," Skyler commented, staring at the back of Austen.
"I don't need friends," Zayne complained.
"Oh yes you do. Let me introduce you to my sister. I'm sure you know her, of course." Skyler said.
Adelina: No he doesn'tOf course, he knew Skyler's sister. He saw her a few times, talking with another girl. Her best friend's name was Erika. Skyler said Skylie dyed their hair blue last summer.
But Zayne hasn't seen her since before summer break. He wasn't even sure what she looked like now.
"Suits you." Zayne shrugged. He didn't care, one way or another.
"There she is now." Skyler tugged on Zayne's shirt, pointing as a blue-haired girl.
As Zayne looked, he felt a sense of dread. Skylie was the girl who was talking to the girl whose locker was next to his.
"Skylie, Zayne. Zayne, Skylie." Skyler introduced cheerfully. "But you must know each other already."
Zayne inwardly shivered under Skylie's cold gaze.
"Well." Skylie ignored Zayne. She turned to Skyler instead. " 'Lil brother, what do you want?"
"Zayne needs some friends," Skyler explained.
Skylie glanced at Zayne. " 'M 'k." She didn't make any comments.
"Hey, Skylie." A girl with purple hair and blue eyes tapped Skylie's shoulder.
"Hey, Eri." Skylie greeted.
That's Erika? Zayne's eyes widened.
Besides being the girl whose locker was next to him, she was also the girl who sat next to him in class.
He didn't even notice!
What the heck? Idiot!Erika grinned at Skylie. Then she cast her glance at Zayne and looked back and forth between Skylie and Zayne.
"What?" Erika asked Skyler, who was acting like he wasn't in this.
"Zayne needs friends."
Zayne felt anger bubble inside of him. He didn't need friends. He was perfectly content on his own! But he pushed the anger down.
"I'm ok, really." He said quietly.
Erika glanced at him. "You sure?"
Zayne shrugged. "I'm perfectly content on my own." To be honest, he was. He has been lonely for as long as he could remember.
Erika gave him a look, but she turned away, gesturing to Skylie. "Come on. Zayne can solve his problems himself."
As they walked away, Skyler sighed. "You are lonely." He paused and grinned. "And loony."
A ghost of a smile showed on Zayne's face. It was a good pun, of some sorts.
Skyler's grin broadened. He liked making his friend smile. He counted it as some sort of achievement.
