Our sky is purple.
And we have no grass.
We are aware of other realities -or universes.
Therefore, it is our job to protect them.
"Fluke! We're going to be late!"
My focus was interrupted by my mother. I almost forgot about The Choosing Ceremony. I stumbled over my feet trying to get to the door and tripped. Scrambling up, I hastily slipped on my jacket and scurried out the door. "Coming!", I yelled, followed by a "You better be!" in the distance.
I know there's a lot to explain, but I was a complete mess before I met Marie. Well, I still am, but that's not the point!
Today is the day of The Choosing Ceremony. It's basically selecting twenty people to protect each realm's Realm Crystal. I'm about twenty-six debonars old (Thirteen Earthean years), so I'm more likely to be chosen. Of course, I didn't actually think I was going to be chosen.
Those from twenty to thirty debonars are put into a ballot at the main base. Out of, like, one hundred thousand, only twenty are chosen.
It was quick.
A simple choosing this Ken (Two Years).
They warned everyone, "Those who are chosen will suffer the pain of an entire Ken alone. They gave some examples of the Crystal's areas we were supposed to guard: A desert, an old Roman temple, an abandoned ship at the bottom of the ocean, and so on.
They assured us that citizens ages 27 and under would be mostly safe from the selection.Keyword: 'Mostly'.
My name still rings in my head from the chubby lieutenant and several other people in my District.
"Fluke Wyatt has been chosen to protect the Earthean Crystal in the 'Self' Realm.
"Fluke Wyatt has been chosen to protect the Earthean Crystal."
"Fluke Wyatt has been chosen"
"Fluke Wyatt"
...
"Isn't he the wimp of a kid from District D?"
And I was. I still am! Sort of.
They armored me up with nanites and some high-tech watch that showed me the time lengths of the Earthean Realm. And I was sent off.
So, now I'm stuck in this humid cave for a Ken, guarding some crystal I wasn't expecting to. I had a whole life planned for me. I was going to work as a corporal in the main base, but the entire thing is just ruined now. I didn't get to say bye's to my parents or anything.
And now I'm alone.
The cave the crystal is in was in the shape of a giant octagon, similar to the pillar holding the crystal up like some grand prize, waiting to be taken.
I checked my watch for the hundredth time today. 6:50 p.m. Five minutes had passed since the last time I'd checked.
Right. I almost forgot to mention the incident that happened yesterday, day 15. Some guy with a camera found the crystal I was guarding, so I kicked the wall and cut off his entry access. Only then did I begin to wonder how the other chosen ones were doing; If they were having problems too.
So, today is day 16. The humidity of the cave seemed to get denser and denser.Until I heard footsteps.
I should've known as soon as someone discovered the place, they would want more. Typical Self Realm. But I heard more than one pair of footsteps, unlike last time. An estimated amount of footsteps: sixteen. An estimated amount of people:
