On average, a person can see four to seven dreams each night, spending approximately six years of dreaming. There are those good dreams, clearly based on fantasy with no realistic plot or whatsoever. You curse the moment you woke up as that one dream was too good, it made you happy and suddenly it was taken away from you. Thus, you are left in the miserable reality of the real world, where every single thing is a mess.
There are other dreams which act as time machines. They bring you back memories you did not even know that still existed inside your head. Sweet, innocent memories. Of your childhood or young age. Of first experiences and adventures. Those where the days when nothing really mattered, you were free in your own way. You regret waking up from such dreams as well.
And there are dreams...no those are nightmares. There are nightmares so vivid, so loud. Nightmares from which you cannot run away. It is as if your own head hates you, making you see and feel such horrors. Your deepest regrets and biggest mistakes are unfolding in front of your soul's eyes. You cannot change the plot, no, this time you are simply your own audience. Unable to prevent the mistake from happening, unable to control the situation. You just sit there...suffering. How can your brain be so...merciless? You cannot hide from those nightmares that leave you screaming or gasping for air as soon as you open your eyes again. You get used to it as the time passes, I promise.
They say that dreams are a unique way for you to communicate with your subconscious. I have a little Natasha locked in there, she tries to speak during the daytime but her voice can't be heard. So she takes her revenge during the night, causing trouble. Childish way of thinking huh? Well, it just makes a bit of sense. As if my own mind wants to punish me for the paths I chose to follow. But it is alright. I regret nothing. Even if I do suffer during the nights I will carry on. My brain can play twisted games but it so happens that I like those. I have defeated so many enemies before, I will not allow my goddamn dreams to be a distraction, to slow me down. Dreams are just dreams and they should never affect me, not as much as they do when the sun's down. That is a battle I have yet to win. It will take a while but I will, eventually.
