Prologue
Concord Dawn

Kai woke up to Walon Vau shaking his shoulder. "Kal wants to see you, so get your shebs out of bed." Rubbing the grogginess out of his eyes, Kai got out of bed. Pulling on a shirt, he followed Vau out of the room and down the hallway. Opening the door, Vau told him to enter. Walking into the room, Kai saw Kal Skirata sitting behind a desk with a comlink held to one ear. Next to him stood a tall, broad-shouldered clone. Vau cleared his throat, and Skirata looked up. Nodding his head, he put the comlink on the desk. Vau closed the door and nodded at the clone. "Kai Relon, right? First, welcome to Kyrimorut. I trust you and your family are settled nicely?" Skirata asked. Once Kai nodded, he continued. "We don't normally take refugees anymore, but since you brought Delta, we allowed you to stay the night. However, we have yet to determine whether you can stay. Obviously, we're very grateful that you brought our family to us. But that doesn't give you a free pass to stay here indefinitely. First you have to prove that you won't endanger us with your presence. If you can prove that you're not, then we welcome you as part of our clan. However. If you end up putting any of my family in danger, I'll cut your throat myself. Understood?" Kai nodded and spent the next hour answering questions that were meant to prove that he and his family were not a threat to Kyrimorut or its inhabitations. After Skirata was satisfied, he let Kai leave. By the time he got back to his room, Iris was awake and had asked where he had been. Kai smiled, and said "I was talking with Kal Skirata, and I think we can stay here. Maybe this is where we'll be for the rest of our lives. Maybe here we can live in peace."
Chapter One
Concord Dawn- six months later
"Get down!" Jaing Skirata yelled at Kai. Dropping to the ground, the ball soared over his head and was caught by Kad, Kal's grandson, who promptly tossed it to Niner, who was then tackled by Darman. Laughing, Darman kicked the ball to Ordo, who scored. "Aw, ref, that was out-of-bounds" Corr yelled at Vau. Vau was silent for a second, then announced that it was a goal. Groaning with his team, Kai got in position, blocking A'den. Smirking, A'den tackled Kai to the ground. The sharp tang of wet grass invaded his nostrils as Prudii helped him up. Kai shook his head, and sprinted so Jaing could pass the ball to him. Catching it by the tips of his fingers, he reversed and tossed it back to Jaing, who now had an opening to score. Grinning, he kicked the ball between the two posts that marked the other team's goal. Mason tried to block, but the ball made it past him by mere inches. "Alright, half-time! I come bearing food" Besany announced and placed down several platters on the table that Skirata, Vau, and Iris sat at. The clones immediately perked up and rushed the table. By the time Kai reached the table, the ten clones were already sitting down and digging in. Smiling, Kai put a few things on his plate and sat down next to Iris and Mason. "Where's Ruu? Talking to Jag again" he asked his wife. Smiling back, Iris nodded. "They seem to really get along and like each other." Kai smiled and began to eat. Taking a sip of his cup of Ne'tra gal, Kai sat back and looked around at the people who made up the inhabitants of Kyrimorut. Feeling peaceful, Kai enjoyed the sunlight and traditional Mandalorian food. Skirata, as usual, looked overjoyed to be with his kids, all of which were adopted clones. Vau looked equally happy to be with Boss, Fixer, Scorch, and of course Sev. For the past six months, Vau and Delta had been inseparable. Somehow, they alone seemed to not even notice the stench that Vau's pet strill, Lord Mirdalan, who everybody called Mird. Every time Kai saw them, that group looked absolutely delighted to be with each other again. Ten minutes later, they resumed the game.
Chapter Two
Walking around the barn, Kai took a moment to look out at the farmlands around him. Taking a deep breath, he inhaled the scents of a fully functioning farm. One of his favorite pastimes, especially in the early mornings, was walking around Kyrimorut and feel at peace, despite the war that was now coming to a boil all throughout the galaxy. Fortunately for them, Concord Dawn was defended by the Mandalorian Protectors. They may not be the nicest people, but they did their job, and did it well. Skirata himself had no problem with the Protectors, and was in fact friends with a Protector he only called Jeban. Vau, on the other hand, couldn't stand the group, and thought they might risk bringing the full might of the Empire to the planet. All in all, Kai still felt safe at Kyrimorut, because he knew that Skirata, and his aliit, his family, would fight to their last breath in order to protect the hundred or so people living there. In its essence, Kyrimorut wasn't just the home of Clan Skirata, but a safe haven for people just trying to escape the iron fist of the Empire. What had originally started off as a place that clone deserters could go to be set up with a new identity and life had turned into a place for all beings, clones or otherwise, where they were able to live in peace and without fear. Kai knew that if they were found, they could very well meet a gruesome end. But despite all of that, he felt safer here then he had even in his own home on Chardin. Continuing his walk, Kai passed the nuna and stopped when he saw Levet, another clone, feeding them. Smiling at the fact that a clone soldier, bred for war and considered expendable, could even find the peace to farm made Kai fall in love with Kyrimorut all over again. Here, it didn't matter who you were or what you had done, if you passed Skirata's test and stayed, you were family. No one judged you for your past, because all they cared about was what you would do in the future. Over the archway that led into Kyrimorut, there was a faded sign that read "Spirba ibic Kurshok bal kemir ti a Cin Vhetin" in Mando'a, and below it, in the blocky letter of Galactic Basic, the translation "Pass this door and walk with a Fresh Start." Picking up his pace again, Kai reached the memorial that Vau and Skirata had built to remember the hundreds of thousand of clones who died during the Clone Wars. Only one nonclone's name appeared on the memorial. Etain Tur-Mukan, the wife of Darman and mother of Kad, was killed during the chaos of Order 66. After bowing his head for a respectful moment of silence, Kai walked through the memorial. Reaching the end, he read the plague fixed on a podium. The plague was simple, only a few words, but it summed up the way Mandalorian's felt about death. It said "Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la" which translated to "Not gone, merely marching far away." Turning around, Kai made his way out of the memorial, past Levet and the nuna, and reached the main building. Entering through the back door, he saw that Skirata and his sons, as well as Kai's own family, were sitting at the table, in mid conversation. Seeing Kai, Skirata bid him a good morning, and gestured for him to take a seat. "Ordo, Kom'rk, Mereel, Darman, and I are going on a trip to Rhen Var, just to make sure that the Empire doesn't have any plans for Concord Dawn. You're more than welcome to come, if you want" Skirata said, making it clear that he would like the additional company. Kai looked at Iris and asked for permission by raising one eyebrow. She smiled and nodded. "Yeah, that should be fun. When do we leave?" Skirata nodded to show he was pleased Kai had agreed, and replied "As soon as we're all done with breakfast and you get your gear together. No beskar'gam because were dressing up as Imperials. As it turns out, fully armored Mandalorians tend to put Imperial officers on edge. Just bring a blaster, and your chestplate. We can hid that under the uniform." Kai smiled, and a half hour later, with his twin WESTAR-35 blaster pistols and the chestplate of his newly repainted red and gold Mandalorian armor, the shuttle, a Lambda-class, took off. Once they made the jump to lightspeed, Skirata turned around. On his face was a very disturbing smile, one that made Kai glad that he was on this man's side. One that made him pity whoever was on the receiving end of that look. Somehow, Kai knew that this mission may well be very interesting. Skirata opened his mouth to speak. "This is gonna be fun, eh, boys?"
Chapter Three
Rhen Var, Imperial Research Center
"Imperial shuttle 4369-3748H, you are cleared to land. Please proceed to landing pad 17." The comm went dead, and the team smiled at each other at having gotten through. Once they landed, Skirata and Kai, dressed as Imperial officers, went out onto the pad, where they were greeted by the deck officer. The deck officer asked for their cargo manifest. Handing it to him, Kai smiled to himself. Jaing really is the best slicer in the galaxy. Looking through the datapad, the deck officer cleared them, and walked away. "Alright boys, come on out. We've got work to do" Skirata called into the hold. After a second, Ordo, Kom'rk, Mereel, and Darman appeared, dressed as Imperial technicians. Ten minutes later, they were inside the research center itself, where they split up, Mereel and Darman with Skirata, Kom'rk and Ordo with Kai. "Remember, we're just looking to see if the Empire has any plans for any of the planets in Mandalorian Space. I don't care if you see they want to send a few million stormtroopers to attack the Hutts. We only care about our system." With that, the two teams split up. Going one way, Kai, Kom'rk, and Ordo walked up to a research station. Kai and Ordo kept watch while Kom'rk sliced into the station. After scanning the data for a few minutes, Kom'rk announced that he couldn't find any plans for Mandalorian Space. Smiling, the group commed Skirata and told him the good news. Skirata reported back the same thing. A few minutes later, the two groups converged, and left. Making it back to the shuttle, they waited a few hours, playing holochess to kill time, before asking the flight control tower for permission to take off. Five minutes later, they reached space, and jumped to lightspeed.
