Spending the night in an alley made Aedan realise how bad his situation was. He had nowhere to stay, he had no other family in town. After thinking about how he was going to spend the day, Aedan packed up the blankets and walked out onto the street. His plan was to go around all the supermarkets and ask if he could start a job. Aedan’s first target was the local fruit and vegetable shop. The owner was an elderly lady named Ms. Dorothy who had a soft spot for Aedan.

He entered the store and spotted her in the apple section. “Excuse me Ms. Dorothy could I ask you something?” Aedan asked politely. “Of course darling, what can I do for you?” she replied sounding as nice as always. “I want to move out of my parent’s house, you know why. And I was wondering if I could work here for a bit to earn some money so I can pay for my own little apartment.” after asking this there was a long pause before Ms. Dorothy finally answered. “Aedan what happened and where did you sleep last night?” After telling her about everything that had happened the night before Ms. Dorothy gave Aedan a long hug. “I’m so sorry boy. I never thought that your father would go that far. Look, I want you to stay with me.” After Ms. Dorothy had finished Aedan was stunned. He knew that Ms. Dorothy liked him, even treated him like her own son. But he didn’t except her to ask him to stay with her. “Hm, I really appreciate that Ms. Dorothy but I don’t want to bother you. I would only need the job to earn money and then I could live in my own place.” “Aedan you don’t bother me, I want you to stay with me FINISHED.” Aedan knew that once Ms. Dorothy decided on something there was no chance of changing her decision. “Only if it isn’t too much effort” he said after a while. He didn’t want to be Ms. Dorothy’s problem. “Great, I hope you don’t mind but my son is staying with me for a few weeks. So you two might have to share a room.” She said sounding even happier.  “Thank you so much Ms. Dorothy. I don’t know what I would do without you”

Ms. Dorothy closed the store and led Aedan to her car. On the way to her house there was a lot of silence in the car. Aedan was thinking about how to make it up to Ms. Dorothy for taking him in. After a while they had finally arrived at her house. It was an old looking wood house, but there was also a beauty to it. Ms. Dorothy took great care of her garden. Everywhere Aedan looked there were flowers, trees and bushes that looked so healthy that Aedan had to smile.

On the inside the house was just as beautiful. Flowers and pictures everywhere. The smell reminded Aedan of a bakery. “This is where you will be sleeping” Ms. Dorothy said pointing towards a door. “My son Ash will join us a bit later, he is out with some friends at the moment” The first thing that Aedan saw when he walked into Ash’s room was the posters of famous basketball players. He was impressed by his collection. “Wow, Ash must really be into basketball” he said. “Yes, he absolutely loves it. He plays every day” Aedan couldn’t wait to meet Ash

“So, you should probably go and lie down for a bit. I will call you for dinner later” she said leaving the room. So there he was in a warm nice room, with a big bed to lie on. What are change he thought lying down. He couldn’t stop thinking about Ash, maybe they could play basketball together. The warmth and the nice bed caused Aedan to fall asleep without any problems.
