Kai's test goes well. It was a bit tougher at first as he is used to much smaller spacecrafts. He easily surpasses Penguin with his flying manoeuvres and even with half broken landing gear he manages to land perfectly.
The crew, including Penguin, are relieved at the new pilot who actually knows what he's doing.
You take some time to teach Kiri how to operate the ship's blasters for if you ever get into a fight. There are four large blasters in the ship. Two are close to the cockpit and face forward. There is one at the bottom of the ship close to the engine room and one on a little glass dome at the top of the ship. These two guns can both turn 360 degrees horizontally and quite a way vertically.
Kai's description of Kiri's natural sniping skills turn out to be an understatement. Her good eyesight and fast reflexes give her an advantage but it is clear that she has put a lot of hard work into learning to aim properly.
You make a mental note to build her some kind of sniper rifle in case you ever get caught up in an on ground confrontation.
It is day four on Shuduvis when the crew receives the next task from the organisation you are kind of working under.
A low ranking member of the organisation showed up as soon as the sun rose and gave your captain a set of coordinates and some brief instructions.
You and Penguin are ordered to take the shuttle and go pick up some final supplies then grab Kiri and Kai before you take off.
Penguin drives the shuttle across the wasteland and through the streets until you reach Kiri and Kai's apartment building.
Kiri stays at the apartment to guard the shuttle while you, Kai and Penguin wander into the town to shop within the budget set by the captain.
Bepo and Shachi had already stocked up on a lot of food yesterday but you buy some more anyways. The crew has grown to seven people so food won't last as long.
Kai guides you and Penguin to a collection of mechanics shops. Together they all sell a large selection of parts with varying quality and prices. Penguin gets engaged in a mechanics based conversation which you try to follow but you grew up around the parts, not the names of the theories.
Kai doesn't even bother trying to listen in. For the past few days he had been selling things that he and Kiri would no longer need on the Polar Tang. He vanishes into the crowd as soon as Penguin strikes up conversation with the shopkeeper.
You hang around for a bit before wandering off on your own. The captain had advised you all to stay together but you had grown up on streets similar to these. You know how to stay out of trouble.
You leave the mechanics shops and make your way to the main market. There are many stalls with different products encircling a courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard is a dried up fountain that is beginning to succumb to its age. Chips of rocks had fallen off until the centrepiece of the fountain is barely recognisable as a humanoid. The heat of the sun is dampened by a large tarp above the crowd.
Unlike the rest of the city the marketplace is bright and colourful, with loud noises and excited people everywhere. Children dash through the crowd to look at the interesting clothes and both the rich and the poor intermingle as if they had always been friends. It is a change of pace to the slow and dull life of the slums just a few blocks away.
Kiri had told you about this marketplace. They visit Shuduvis for a week every three years to sell and to buy and bring joy to many of the people who live out their miserable lives in this wasteland.
