She was told not to go too far into the woods. Sometimes she listened and sometimes she didn't. This was one of those times she didn't, yet she always managed to find her way back home. Her parents were good, tried their best but there were a few times where they just couldn't keep a close on her like they wanted. They didn't live in the city anymore. Not since her grandfather died in a car accident. The people who had caused it got off pretty much free, even with the fact they might've done it on purpose rather than it just being reckless driving. It was just a hunch however, but it wouldn't be surprising if it was on purpose. The city was cruel that way, the whole world was. Seems it was for the better considering the pattern of fires that keep happening.
They lived a couple minutes away from the city now, near the woods. Just close enough to get things they needed and just far away enough from the commotion and high crime rate of the city (even if where they lived had their own dangers as well). Frisk was too young to understand much beyond just missing her grandfather, but she didn't mind the move. She didn't have many friends at school to miss, and the ones she did have didn't like how there were times where she couldn't speak, having to use sign language. The girl didn't know if she could call those friends or not. For now she was home schooled.
The move wouldn't be permanent anyway, in fact they were to move somewhere else a bit nicer within about six months or so. Frisk was alright with anything though, she was contented just being here, among all the animals and nature. She was an explorer by heart, something she gained from her father.
She skipped along the path she knew so well, didn't stop until she was met with a sound from off the path. Her eyes squinted towards the direction of it, moving some bushes and vines out of the way to see it. Her. A fawn. She was eating something on the ground. Frisk smiled just a bit, the young didn't seem to notice her until she stepped a bit closer. The fawn stepped back.
"Whoa, it's okay... I'm not gonna hurt ya."
Frisk's voice was quiet, low and she preferred this because didn't hurt her throat as much when she spoke this way. The fawn must've liked it too because she didn't move away, though Frisk wasn't moving either.
"You're really cute. You're alone..? M-- Me too... Well, my mom and dad aren't too far from here but..." This was really silly, she was talking to her like she could understand but, she kept going, "Say, if you want, we could be friends?"
The fawn didn't move, just tilting her head. Could she take that as a yes or no or an I'm thinking about it, or..?
Both of their heads turned to the snap of a twig near them. A second after there was a gunshot.

The policemen wasn't an old man and definitely didn't look it, but his dark brown hair was graying at the roots. He had blue eyes, so vibrant that it almost looked odd on him and his bored expressing that he always wore. After calming the girl down as best he could he sat her in the hallway. Frisk wasn't too responsive to much. She no longer screamed or cried after apologizing to him. Not like it would do anything anyway. Her parents were gone but she was still here. Alive. The only thing of worth to her that could be salvaged from the fire was a charred family picture she couldn't stand to look at. She had heard that the fire was probably caused people from the city. The world was cruel.
The policemen was around the corner with someone, some woman. They didn't have the courtesy speak in low voices, not like they should have.
"This child has no known family around here as it seems her grandfather died a while back... Everyone else we've contacted has just hung up or just can't take her in."
