Knock, knock, knock.

I jerked awake in bed. There was that noise again. I scowl, my head swimming with the remnants of sleep that tried to coax myself back to bed. The knocking continued. I couldn't help it any longer so I flung back the covers and swung my feet over to one side of the bed. I approached my way downstairs since that was where the noise was being head, I look out the window but at first didn't see anybody so I just unlock it and open it with a swift pull. I was met face-to-face with a dark haired girl, my lover. Taken slightly aback, his heart raced. What was Ren doing arriving here this late at night? Why couldn't she just open the door herself? Glancing up, I saw the girl standing there on our front porch, her arm wrapped around a bag as her other hand showed lithe, propped by her side.

"Hello."

My mouth agape as I was too stunned to say anything to the girl. "H-Hi...What are you doing out here this time of night?" I cross my arms over my chest. The cold wind blew in through the window and she shivered where she stood, her black silk pants not offering much protection against the garments. I stare at my love for a moment, silently demanding an answer in curiousity.

"You didn't answer your door when I knocked," Ren said. She lifted the bottle to her mouth filled with blue liquid swarming in a science retainer as he took a swig.

"I didn't think it would be you..." I said.

Ren shifted her feet, her bag still protected by her forearm as her beautiful black locks of hair swished in the arising wind. "Will you please just let me in?" Her blue eyes meet with mine as I sigh, holding the door for her as she steps in. She pulled me by my hand, returning a hug to me for a split second. But now rather gracefully pulling away. She mused my scent.

"I missed you," Miss. Ren admitted. "I wanted to try and get here as soon as possible, but I rushed."

"It's okay... b-but why couldn't you just have opened the door yourself?" I ask in a stutter.

Rend winced, sighing. "Well, uh..." I wasn't used to her mannerisms at all, as if she completely changed.

"What's wrong? tell me," I reassure her as we both sit on the couch, taking my hand into her grasp as she holds it as if I were going to leave or something. Her eyes meet again with mine and it was then that I noticed something strange about her in her eyes in that moment. They were not as bright as usual. They appeared slightly dull and particularly sad. Softening my demeanor a little, I cleared my throat and moved to sit more beside her. "You okay?" I finally asked after a few moments of silence between the two of us. She shakes her head which makes me frown.

"I've got something to tell you, Wanshu. There's not much time, though," she replies, lowering her head. She moved her hand closer to my rear cheek as I shiver at the cold touch, her skin like ice. "You know I care deeply for you, right?" Ren said softly. I nodded. It was true. The both of us had been rarely seeing each other for some time now especially when she comes home from work and I'm distant, hectic from doing everything else. We both knew that we cared for each other, though, but had never acted on anything. The most we had ever done was holding hands and soft caresses here and there.

"Something happened tonight, and I don't think it can be undone," She said. I bristled. "No, I didn't meet someone new," Ren said quickly, trying to quell my fears. "I can't tell you what happened right now, though. You just have to trust me." I shiver at her tone, thinking what was the problem.

"I... I trust you, Ren," I say in a panicked voice but my paranoia was silent, my heart pounding fast against my chest and fears running through my head. I didn't know what to expect tonight besides a regular day with her coming home from work...
