Fin's POV
I get back to my black sedan after leaving the apartment complex - that I had been to many times before. The cold winter breeze hits me and I need to contain myself. I brush down my black hoody and take in a breathe as I turn to look back at the doors I had just walked out from.
"This can't happen again" I think to myself as I jolt my eyes to the apartment window where I had just left Morgan, probably questioning why I left her the way I did. I turn to my car and jump in the drivers seat, right on queue my phone vibrates - I bet it's another job.
"Finley Wells, Long time no see - wanna catch up? I'm in town for the next few nights, it's been a while - S x"
Ha! Her timing is impeccable! I scroll through my messages and make sure I don't have another job booked, it's nearing on 1am and it's possible that I may still get a text for some drunk pick ups in town. But I'm willing to take that risk, especially because I know, she will be able to take this demon building inside me. She always has.
"Send me your location, it has been a while. Fin"
I threw my phone into the center console and made my way to my apartment, if I know S the way I think I do, she won't be far. And damn do I need this tonight.
I arrive at my apartment and pull my phone out to check, and just as I had thought she's a block away. Makes for an easy exit, like every other time. I run upstairs to grab a few things and make my way to her apartment. This is exactly what I need. I head back down through to the lobby, where she's standing to meet me, "I fucking told her I would come to her, what the fuck is she doing here?" That's the problem with S, she doesn't fucking listen. But, no one can quite refresh my mind like her - so I keep her around.
"I was coming to get you Selena, I'll meet you upstairs," I say to her as I walk toward her and hand her the pass for the apartment. She nods, and walks right past me to the elevator. She swings her hips as she walks, she knows she's got it, and to be true to myself I admire that. But she's just a girl, she tries too hard and that's why I would never commit to her - and she knows that.I walk outside into the cold winter breeze and light up a smoke, I fucking hate when she does what she pleases. But after the night I've had, I'll let her off this time. I breath in the nicotine from my Marlboro Blue, and try to make sense of today. Morgan reminded me so much of her and that's what scared me. The moment she jumped into my car, I could feel that familiarity - and I just had to explore that. I took her to Burke's because I go there sometimes to think. She didn't know it yet, but Burke's lookout was my safe place... and she seemed to enjoy it as much as I do, and that in itself gave me hope.
I throw out my smoke and take in a breath. "Selena better fucking behave tonight, I'm not in the mood for her antics today."
The next day.
I'm already running late, and I can't stand being late. I slept through that damn alarm, I haven't done that since ... well, her, and it scared me to think that I was going to lose it once more. I grab a white shirt and a pair of black slacks and head out the door, "I'll grab my coffee to go from that cafeteria near the office" I say to myself as I exit my apartment. S had left as planned last night and usually I would easily get myself to sleep after letting out frustrations, but last night - it wasn't the same... and I knew why - I had someone else on my mind.
I get into my car and head down into town, I have a meeting with Prince today, and he's bound to be a ball breaker. I arrive at the office and park in the lot, I've never been so late to a meeting in my life. I check the time and I have 5 minutes to prepare - Fuck, I hope I'm on my game today. I walk through the lobby, "Good morning Mr. Wells" my assistant chimes.
"Good morning Mel, is he here?" I respond hoping for a negative response. She nods her head and smiles, "he's in your office" and she begins to type away at her computer. Fuck!I walk into my office to see Prince and his assistant standing there, why does she look so familiar? "Good morning, I hope you haven't been waiting long?" I say as I enter my office to greet him.
"Just arrived actually, meet my assistant Ashley" he says, gesturing towards this girl I know I've seen before. She looks up at me and her jaw drops, "You're the Uber driver from the other night" she giggles. Morgan's sister, what the fuck is she doing here in my office - with HIM.Prince wasn't your average business man, his last assistant was a short shy girl, fawn hair and glasses - she did as she was told and she didn't last very long. I never knew if he was fucking his assistants, but they always obeyed his every order. But Ash didn't seem like the type to do that, and she really didn't seem his type. Maybe I was wrong? "Nice to see you again Miss?" I respond with a smile.
"Howel" she responds sweetly, and Prince begins to clear his throat. "I trust you have the contracts I was after?" He asks intently.
"Of course" I respond leaning over my desk to grab the paperwork for Prince's new business venture. "It was a long process but I've finally gotten approval for the permits for the apartments you want to set up on the end of town" I say as I had him his papers.
"I knew you would get the job done Wells, that's why I keep you on my pay roll" he says, flicking through the signed permits and then immediately throwing them over at Ash to hold for him. I never liked working for Prince, but he was the one who brought my business off the ground.I was fresh out of law school when I decided I wanted to do it on my own, I was a smart man but I wasn't planning on wasting my days as someone's fall back guy. So I decided to do my research and build my own name, and construction and property law with some of the big guys in the business was the only way I was going to do that. Prince was never my main target, but as years progressed he was my most profitable - and the perks of working for him were comfortable. Rent free apartment and constant work load keeps me afloat. Why do I drive Uber? Well that's a story for another time.
After the meeting with Prince, I head back down to the lobby. I had no other meetings and I really didn't need to be in my office the rest of the day, perks of being your own boss I suppose. Although, more business would be good for me. But I needed to unwind - because S just didn't do that for me this time around. I let Mel know I was leaving and headed back to my car - where my phone begins to vibrate. I unlock my phone and it's Morgan, fuck!
"Hey Fin, thanks for last night. You're right, I needed to unwind. Hope we can hang out again? Morgan x"
As much as I wanted to respond to her, I had to stop myself. The girl had no idea what she was in for with me, and after last night - watching her overlook the city and getting lost in a trance of thoughts, I had recognised her need to overcome something she was battling. And my life, would only make things worse for her. So I deleted her message and put my phone in pocket and headed out of the office.
I was not going to do that to another girl again, no matter how much she wanted me to.
