Chapter 1

Empty memories

Lydia was sitting on the armchair, her legs crossed and tight, her gaze over the wall. It hurt her heart. The images continued to turn them in the head as if they were stars. They reminded her of those same stars who had watched the night when Allison ... She could not even think of her name, who already felt pain.

He turned slowly, his hands behind his back. Lydia could imagine his greenish veins running along his skinny arms, the muscles coming out of the narrow wrists, the bones standing out as the wood grain. She shivered. His dress was that of a normal guy, even though it was too dark for her tastes. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, a T-shirt with short sleeves, tight pants and a pair of shoes. Her hair was fired as usual and had dark circles under the eyes. Strangely, he was not scared. Indeed, she was almost ... angry with him. She was furious.

<< Do you remember what we did in the tunnel of Oak Creek? >> Asked, with his cocky grin that slowly made its way on his pale face.

Lydia licked his lips before speaking.

<< Yes, I remember. >> Replied. He looked down, pleased. << I regret it every day. >>

That looked up and stared at her deeply. Really? It had seemed that night, before the world fell on her, before Allison died. Before she know what he would do.

<< Not true. >>

<< It’s true for me. >>

He swallowed, uncertain. It had never happened to feel so bad, feel fall in the air, not to be sure of anything. He watched her for a long time. It was all a game of glances between them. It had always been.

<< What do you want? >> he asked.

She stood up from the chair, with a slow and fluid. Her hair fell over the left shoulder.

<< More. >> Lydia answered, as to make him the verse, but it was incredibly serious.

He took a few steps closer to her. Lydia did not flinch, but clenched his fists, sticking nails into her palms. He winced. It was as if he felt her pain and he was enjoying. Fear, pain, chaos. Did he still enjoy all of this?

<< Do you want me to go? >>

Lydia felt a lump in her throat with tears, but she found the strength to nod.

<< Yes. >>

He sighed softly. It was as if time had dilated and was holding them together like a spider web.

<< I know what you feel and I am insatiable. >>

Then he clenched his teeth and walked toward the door. His footsteps echoed in the home as in the damn tunnel. It was like reliving that moment forever.

<< I'm sorry. >> Said in the end, with his hand wrapped around the door handle. Lydia took the back of her hand under her nose to avoid bursting into tears. << I wish I could save her. >>

The door closed behind him. Not left behind a trail of death as at other times, but only silence and emptiness.
