Monday morning, I planned to get on the bus. When Casey's car pulled in the driveway, though, I got in. The bad part? Zak was driving and I knew that he had an idea that Casey had spilled the whole story to me. Honestly, if Zak wanted to 'protect' someone, he could do it to someone that wasn't me.

Flopping into the backseat, I asked, "So, what's the reason you picked me up?"

A tense silence. Ohh, so we weren't talking today. Okay.

The whole ride was that way, tense and silent. As Zak pulled into Casey's normal parking spot, I moved to jump out, but the door was locked.

"Hey!" Casey and I protested at the same time. Apparently our minds worked the same.

"Since we have time before school starts, let's talk some things through," Zak said as he turned and looked back at me. His eyes were the interesting shade of ice blue of his wolf.

I wasn't stupid. He had likely been in the woods when Casey had shifted in front of me. I grinned and poked the wolf, "Hi, doggy."

Casey made a choked wheezing sound that could have been smothered laughter or the beginnings of a panic attack as a growl filled the car and Zak's eyes narrowed. "You two will tell me what's going on. How much does she know? And why did you tell her?"

I got my door unlocked while Zak's attention was on Casey and jumped out after reaching up and unlocking Casey's door. Slamming my door to get the wolf's attention, I jerked Casey's open and dragged him out by the back of his shirt. It's a good thing he already had a hold on his school stuff.

Pulling a stunned Casey to his feet, I slammed teh car door and dragged my friend towards the school. The look on his face told me he was freaking out.

"Don't answer his questions yet." Glancing back, I saw Zak getting out of the car.

Casey muttered, "I'll have to if he corners me. He ranks higher than I do and is more dominant."

"Try not to, then. Something tells me it doesn;t take much to piss him off." One reason I had to get us both out of the car was I could feel Zak's wolf too close to the surface. If he had shifted, there would've been no space to get out.

With a nod from Casey, we headed to our separate class rooms.

In second, it was like Shay was avoiding acknowledging I was there. With no chance to say anything to him, I waited. In third, we had a substitute who didn't care what we did as long as we didn't disturb her.

"Hey, Shay," I said while he tried to look busy and avoid me. When he didn't respond, I leaned over his shoulder and whispered, "Come on, Potter. You and Casey can stop arguing now. I know what's up."

He nearly jumped out of his seat. Typically, I stayed out of people's bubbles, but this wasn't a typical moment. Some of the other students noticed and snickered.

Spinning around in his seat, Shay stared at me wide-eyed. His last name was actually Garden, but he caught my reference. I picked up a book and proceeded to ignore him for the rest of class.

In the next class, Casey was late. When he landed in his seat, he seemed out of breath and agitated.

Once our teacher had finished her lecture, I finally got to ask, "Why were you late?"

"Zak cornered me in the bathroom, but I got away when some student came in," he looked like he was dreading the end of the school day. I didn't want to make him have to sit in a car with a pissed-off wolf.

"I never really saw him today. What are you going to do once school's out?"

"I don't know. He has the keys," Casey muttered, laying his head on the desk.

"Hold on," I told my distraut friend as I got up to ask the teacher if I could go to the restroom. Once I had the lime green ruler our class used as a hall pass, I headed out the door.

What was his class? I thought, looking into various windows of the English hall. It's a good thing my instincts helped out. As I followed where they led, I found the class Shay was in. Looking through the glass, I spotted him.

Lucky for me, he looked up. His teacher wasn't hte friendliest and I didn't want to disturb the lecture he was still giving. I motioned for him to come out here and Shay raised his hand.

I walked towards the restrooms so that if anyone went by, my hallpass would get them to leave me alone. When Shay got there, I stopped his questions before they could be uttered. "I'll answer your questions later. Right now, I need you to give me and Casey a ride to my house after school." As Shay tensed, I added, "Your issues need to stop. He is scared of riding home with Zak, and you know I wouldn't interrupt class if I didn't see it as important."

After a moment, Shay sighed and said, "Fine. The two of you better be at my car, or I'm leaving you."

"Fine." We parted ways after that.

"We have a ride," I told Casey, who was still face-down on the desk. "We just have to get to Shay's car before he leaves."

"You asked Shay?" he sounded mad.

"Deal with it pup. You don't wanna deal with Zak and I am not willing to wait for the bus," I snapped at him.

"Fine," Casey said. It didn't sound like it was fine, but it worked.
