"What the hell are you doing here?" I growled through clenched teeth. Leanna folded her arms across her chest. The two vampires that were standing behind her - previously, I hadn't realised were there - took a step closer to us.
"I'm finding food with the rest of my group," she replied smugly. Stephanie made a terrified noise. I could see Callum beginning to crouch down in the corner of my eye and trying to untie her hands. One of the other vampires grabbed his arms and forced him to stand up.
The other took a step closer to Peter, but he tried to stop her by shooting a web at her arm and yanking her towards the ground (he must've grabbed his web shooters once he noticed the commotion in the corridor). This turned out to be a bad idea, as she didn't move an inch, ripping the web away as if it were made of paper. She then went and grabbed him from behind and grasped his hair in her hand, titled his head sideways and threatening to sink her teeth into his neck.
"Stop!" I yelled at her. "What do you want from us?"
"Nothing in particular," Leanna acknowledged. "Just food."
"Let the girl go and we'll do whatever you want," Callum said quickly, wincing slightly as the vampire's grip on his arm tightens.
"All of you come with us or you all die immediately," Leanna countered, raising her eyebrows. That shut Callum up.
Their attention was diverted by the sound of footsteps from inside of the corridor.
"Quick," Leanna said to the other two. "Come on. Let's go to that park we spoke about."
Leanna grabbed me and ran to somewhere I didn't recognise. Callum, Peter and Stephanie looked confused as it happened within a few seconds.
"Where have you taken us?" Peter asked.
"Somewhere more secure," Leanna said. "We can decide what to do with you here in peace." Callum scowled at her.
I looked at my sister with hatred.
"Why have you resorted to this?" I asked her incredulously. "Why don't you just do what we used to do?"
"It's still a death. And besides, criminals make it harder to find them."
"But you're reducing deaths by killing a murderer," I protest. My mind was darting around so rapidly I could hardly keep track of my thoughts. Something wasn't right: why did she want to take us somewhere secure? Why didn't they just kill the others before anyone got here?
Without thinking, I lashed out at Leanna, hitting her across the face with the back of my hand. Callum managed to get out of the vampire's grasp by kneeing him in the stomach and pushing him away. Peter shot a web to the other's face and pulled her to the ground. Both Callum and Peter scrambled to Stephanie go try and untie her, but both of the vampires grabbed them and forced their hand behind their backs.
Meanwhile, Leanna got up and kicked me, sending me flying and causing me to smack against a tree. She grabbed me by the hair and forced me to stand up, but I stamped on her foot and punched her in the face. I pushed her back and threw lots of attacks at her, but her attempts to fight back were weak.
Something still doesn't feel right. I knew she could fight better than that: I also knew she could carry on taking my attack for a long time. Why wasn't she going as hard as she could on me?
Then it came to me. Was she waiting for someone?
I knew the only way out of it was to kill her. I looked at Peter, trying to tell him what I was thinking with my expression. His expression said that he thought something was off too, the same thing when I looked at Callum.
I looked down for a moment.
I can't do this, can I?
I pushed the thought from my mind, pouncing onto Leanna. I wrapped my arms around her neck and put her into a choke hold. I then started to push her head back with my hand, waiting for it to snap off like china.
"You can't do this," Leanna let out with sadness. "We've only just been reunited."
I gritted my teeth.
"So what?"
Don't let her get to you...
"I... I've been looking for you for years..."
I let go of her. Leanna kneeled in front of me, looking at me dead in the eyes with a glint of sadness in her red orbs.
"R-really?"
Leanna smiled sadly, nodding. I thought she was about to cry.
"Dakota..." Peter mumbled. I turn to look at him. He looked concerned, nodding his head toward something behind me.
I span around. A tall man dressed in all black was approaching us. At first I thought he was just a random person, but then I saw that his eyes were red. I then panicked, becoming aware of the fact that it had been a trap all along.
Upon instinct, I went straight for Leanna. She leapt up onto her feet, but I went down again. I was confused: my legs had turned to jelly. The man was holding his hand out towards me, a black smoke-like substance rushing towards me.
"What are you doing?!" I screamed in a panic. I turned to Callum and Peter worriedly, seeing that Stephanie had started crying. I looked back at the black smoke coming towards me.
It encircled me.
"Stop!" I shrieked.
"Where are you going to take us..." I added, but my words began to slur. The last thing I saw was the smoke coming towards my eyes. I tried to shout again but I couldn't. I then lost my sight. I felt my body collapse onto the floor.
The last thing I heard was,
"Oh, you'll see, sister."
That's when I lost my hearing, and then all of my feeling.
It was like being unconscious, but being totally aware of it. I was trapped inside my own mind. It was dark. And it wouldn't end.
I kept waiting, waiting, waiting....
But it still didn't end.
