Hi everyone. I'm Beck Lewiston. I hope you all remember me. Like I said in the introduction, I go to a normal school and kinda shy. I have one other brother. His name is Carter. He is pretty funny but also very annoying. Anyway, I'm going to give you the gist of what happened last Sunday night. I was sitting in a car with my mom out in the Target parking lot. My dad and brother were in the Target store taking their sweet time on trying to find the perfect pack of blueberries."Hey Beck, come here." My mom said with a smile.
At the time, she was sitting in the front seat, so While I moved myself up to her area I said, "Okay, whats up."
"The ceiling!" My mom replied with a fake laugh. She always thinks she is super funny. Ugh...
"Haha very funny. No, seriously. What's up."
"Come here. Lets look at the new Snapchat filters." My mom replied. Snapchat filters and photos are kinda our thing.
"Okay," I said leaning in close to her to look at the filters.
As we scrolled through the filters, we stumbled upon some very cute ones. But, we eventually decided on a star crown filter, "Alright, let's take a picture. Smile!" My mom said as she got ready to take a selfie of us.
But, as usual, I didn't smile. When my mom snapped the picture, she said that her hair didn't look good, so we were going to take another one. So we did. I didn't smile in that one again.
"Really Beck. Why didn't you smile?" My mom asked me with a look of disappointment in her eyes. I know, I'm dramatic.
"Come on mom. Sorry, but you know that I don't like smiling in pictures." I replied.
"Why? Why don't you smile in pictures." My mom asked sounding desperate for answers.
"Mom! I've told you this. It's because of these stupid braces! They hurt really bad, and they are super ugly!"
"Okay, well then why don't you smile without showing your teeth? Ever think of that?"
"Yeah, I actually have! I've looked at myself in the mirror. But, I don't do that because I think I look prettier when I don't open my mouth or smile. So, I try not to smile in pictures. That's all!"
"Oh please! You know, when you were younger you always used to get compliments on your beautiful smile! That's why everyone was always in your face with their cameras."
"Yeah, like you said, that's when I was younger! Younger! Not now! My smile got really ugly as I got older. I know that, dad knows that, Carter has made it definitely clear that he knows that, and I know that you know that."
"Stop saying that! You know, your dad knows, your brother knows, and even I know that you are lying. We all know that you and your smile is beautiful. No matter what you think about yourself, I will always be trying to put that message in your head because everyone knows that it is true!"
"Thanks I guess mom, but at the same time you have to know that I have the right to make my own decisions on how I want to look. Even if you don't support my idea of what I like to look like."
"Well, you also should know by now that I am your mom, and you are my daughter. As long as you live under my roof and in my house, you will do what I tell you. Even if you don't agree with my commands!"
"Okay! Okay! You want me to smile, then I will!" I said as I grabbed her phone out of her hands and snapped a picture without my mom even realizing it. In the picture, I was semi-smiling. Not actually smiling. As usual when I smile, I looked very ugly. Like super-duper ugly. Ugh, whatever...
"Um, excuse me! Beck, you can't just take my phone when ever you want!"
"Oops, sorry," I replied handing her her phone back, "I've broken that rule a lot with out you knowing." I said with a guilty smile.
"Uh, yeah. You better be sorry." My mom said with a small chuckle.
"Oh my goodness. Okay, want to take another pic?"
"Ooo! You betcha!" She said sounding happy. Of course, I didn't smile, I had a very crooked smile without showing my teeth. But, have no worries, mom was fine with it. She understands. Thanks for reading!
