Why I Stopped Smiling: Based On True Thoughts

Sam's First POV

   Let me set the scene. It's a partly sunny slash cloudy day in Wisconsin, the perfect day in my opinion. My small family and a few friends are out kaiaking at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. (If you don't know what that is, then look it up and see it for yourself!) The water is freezing cold and everyone is laughing while they are getting splashed with water. Is that a great enough scene for you? Good, now let's move on.

   Anyway, when we are all done kaiaking, we all gather around a small beach at the edge of the lake and get ready to take a picture. Can you guys see where this is going? So, whenever my mom finally gets everyone into one area, she starts barking orders at everyone to get into the right positions. Kids in the front on their knees, and adults in the back standing. And as you guessed, she expected everyone to be smiling.

   "Alright everyone! Are we all ready for the picture?" My mom asked everyone.

   "Oh my gosh, MOM. No one cares about your stupid picture! Just take it and get it over with!" I yelled at my mom without thinking of the consequences.

   That's when my mom stormed over to me a said in a tone that I have heard a million times, "Excuse me little girl, but last I checked, I am you mother and you are my little child! Not the other way around! So, I'd shut my mouth if I were you Sam. Oh, and by the way, your grounded for the next three weeks."

   After she said that, I just rolled my eyes and got ready for the picture.

   "Alright everyone! Everyone say Cottage Cheese!" My mom yelled.

   As usual, everyone said "COTTAGE CHEESE!", and smiled or posed for the picture. And for me, I did the usual! I didn't smile. Or pose. I definitely would never pose for a picture.

   Flash Forward About Three Hours

   "I cannot believe you right now Sam! How could you do something so rude! Especially to your own mother!" My mom yelled at me when we got into the car. Right then, my dad was driving, mom was in the passengers seat, and my brother and I were in the back.

   "Seriously mom! Why do you always have to bring up stuff that we already handled?" I asked in annoyance while I crossed my arms.

   "Because! I want your dad to hear what you did!" My mom exclaimed.

   "What did she do now Monica?" My dad asked my mom.

   "Whenever I was getting ready to take that picture on that little beach area, she was being a little brat and a smart mouth. AGAIN."

   "Well Sam, your grounded for a while." My dad said.

   "I KNOW. Mom already told me. I don't need to hear it. AGAIN." I replied mocking my mom. I know I shouldn't do that because I would get in more trouble, but I still do it. I don't know why.

   "See James, this is exactly what she was doing when I was taking the picture. And to make things worse, she wasn't smiling in the picture. Being herself again."

   "You know that you cannot talk to your mom like that Sam. You will be grounded for three weeks."

   "That's the exact number of weeks I said as well!" My mom said with an annoying laugh. After that, our discussion was over.

   After about five minutes of silence, my brother hissed at me, "Haha."

   "What the heck do you want Hayden?" I hissed back at him.

   "You got what you deserved!" Hayden said with an annoying laugh. Like mother like son.

   "Can you shut it now? Sure you win the fight."

   Hayden did a stupid, "yes!" gesture, then looked out his window. Ya see, this is what a normal Saturday is like for me. Thanks for reading one of my chapters!
