As I laid there in bed, I recalled the vision I had of Oscar's soulmate. Ally. Everything about her seemed different. From her looks to the small bit of her personality I saw. Oscar had thick, dark brown hair, compared to Ally who had light, frizzy, curly red hair. She also seemed paler than Oscar, making his skin so much more tan than it was. Ally's eyes were a bright green as Oscar's were a pale brown. She had freckles, his face didn't even have a birthmark.
Then there were their personalities. Ally seemed so adventurous, stubborn, and a little hard headed. Then there was Oscar, who rather play it safe than do something fun, was easily persuaded, and a little emotional at times.
Burying my face in my hands, I moved my thoughts over to Gwen and Matthew. Head over heels in love with her, Matthew tried his hardest when it came to getting Gwen's affection-or even her love. That there was Gwen to in love with Oscar to give Matthew a fair chance.
Every ounce of their beings was meant to be together, no matter how hard I wanted to deny it for Gwen's sake. Matthew was protective and caring, always willing to do what was best for Gwen. Even if it meant letting her run to Oscar. And Gwen, she was so stubborn, not even Oscar could make her convince her to do things. Only Matthew could.
Plus, Matthew's eyes had the same ocean blue color as Gwen's and always lit up when she was around. Their love would be simply breathtaking if Gwen tired. If Gwen gave him a chance.
My thoughts were interrupted with a knock on the door, and instantly I knew who it was. No one in my family knocked.
"Come in Gwen," I called, positioning myself.
Opening the door, Gwen scanned inside the room before walking in. And when she did, she quickly shut the door closed before rushing over to me.
"Why did you tell him!" She shouted, angry. "You know how I feel! I trusted you Masiel, from the moment I got my mark I trusted you with my secret. Thought if you knew, that'd perhaps you'd help me out. Or at least understand. But instead, you just go telling him about Ally!"
When she was done, I gave her a second before saying anything.
"He has a right to know about her. Besides, all I said was I know who it was. I never mentioned her name or where she was."
"But now he knows I know. You know I can't lie to his face, so when he asked me about it, I had to tell him!"
"It's not my fault!" I shouted back, "That you're in love with Oscar!"
As soon as the words were out of my mouth, I instantly regretted it. Every fiber of my being burned with guilt and my heart broke as it watched Gwen's face fall.
Sighing, I decided it was time to tell her. Tell her what everyone knew, and what she should do. Even if it meant breaking her. And losing one of my best friends in the process.
"Gwen, you need to leave," I said, keeping my voice calm and steady.
"Whatever, we'll talk later."
"No, Gwen. Leave. You don't need to come back here. I'll be fine, I have my family."
"Masiel," She started slowly, making eye contact with me. "What are you saying?"
"I don't want you around my family anymore. I wouldn't mind if you were dooming you're chance at love, but you're destroying Oscar's chance as well, and he deserves better. You both do. So please leave."
I caught only a glimpse of the pain that took over her body before she stormed out.
*************
The next few days it seemed like everyone was avoiding conversation concerning marks. Mom came in every hour to make sure I was okay, and once she was satisfied left and went back to work. Grandma would come in every once and a while but didn't say anything. Instead, she just sat at the chair reading. Oscar came in to keep me company sometimes, but the tension was so high, all he would ever talk about is school.
Gwen never came back.
On the fourth day of my bed rest, three days after Gwen left, I was getting up to take a shower when my foot fell asleep. Or at least I thought it did. My left foot began to tingle and slightly redden on the side. It didn't hurt but wasn't a wonderful feeling either.
After a few seconds, I noticed words begin to appear. Instantly I recognized them. They were the very words Gwen and Matthew had. This only meant one thing: I had helped Gwen go to Matthew.
