Sleep talking (Paul Lahote)

An angelic laugh rung through the air causing Paul's eyes to slowly flutter open, sleepily he shifted to face the source pushing away the curtain of hair to reveal the smiling face of the love of his life.

"What's so funny" He rasped as a matching smiles crept on his face. "You know you talk in your sleep Pauly" she smirked.

"Oh yeah? What was I saying?" He asked unable to recall whatever it was he was dreaming about. "I'm not telling" she chuckled sticking her tongue out at him.

"Well you can tell me or I can make you" he threatened teasingly "And how exactly to you plan on doing that?" She questioned moving to sit up on the bed beside him.

Slowing he raised his hands from the bed wiggling his fingers in her direction. Suddenly she bolted from the bed screaming in protest to the unspoken threat of being tickled into submission. "You'll never catch me baby!" She half laughed half shouted as she ran into the hallway, of course Paul quickly caught up to her capturing her in his arms before starting his assault on her ribs as she screamed out in protest.

"Tell me and I'll stop" he laughed enjoying ever minute of her loud laughing filling the air around him. "NEVER!" She bellowed as her legs gave out under her causing her to fall to the floor, taking this opportunity to roll away from him and scramble to her feet. Paul held his stomach as he laughed at what she probably thought was a very graceful escape but looked more like a baby deers first attempt at walking.

Before he had time to react he watched as she lost her footing at the top of the staircase, "Y/N!" he cried out as he watched her tumble head first down the flight of stairs propelled by the speed of trying to run away from him.

A loud scream echoed through the house followed by the loud crashing noise of her body hitting the hard wooden stairs. Even with his advanced speed he wasn't fast enough to catch her and he watched in horror as her body fell to the ground just out of his reach.

For the first time since becoming a wolf he wished his senses weren't to heightened as he heard her skull connect with solid flooring under her and the smell off blood creep into his nose.

Beep....beep....beep....beep....beep

A loud gasp fell from his lips as he was suddenly woken from his dream, the same dream he's had on each rare occasion that sleep came to him over the last 3 weeks.

Bright white lights momentarily impaired his vision, blinking rapidly as he became acclimatise to it he pulled himself up to sit up right in the uncomfortable chair he'd rarely vacated in the last 21 days. The only sound that could be heard in the small room was the steady beep of the heart rate monitor in the corner, glancing at it to see it hadn't changed at all since the last time he looked at it he followed the wires that lead him to the girl laying still in the bed a few feet in front of him.

Beep....beep....beep....beep....beep

A traumatic brain injury is what the doctors told him, well what Sam told him he was such a wreck when they brought her in he was in no place to take anything in at the time. Apparently a fragment of her skull had penetrated her brain when she hit her head off the hard oak of their living room floor.

It's a waiting game he's been told, waiting to see how long it will take for her to wake up, waiting to see if she'll have any complications when she does..if she does.

Memory loss is a possibility, one that he can barely bring himself to think about, her waking up and having absolutely no idea who he is will destroy him, all the memories they have made over the last 3 years just gone, gone with no clue if they will ever come back to her. But waking up with no memory is a million times better than never waking up at all.

Beep....beep....beep....beep....beep

Reaching over he took one of her small hands between both of his. "Please wake up baby, I need you to wake up for me, I can't do this without you...I can't handle knowing that this is all my fault, why did I have to chase you! Why couldn't I have just wrapped my arms around you and pulled you into my chest, please baby don't do this to me, don't hurt me like this!"

Beep....beep....beep....beep.....

"It's not meant to be like this! There's so much we haven't done yet, we haven't even lived yet, we're supposed to get married and have lots of babies and grow old together, we shouldn't be here we should be at home curled up on the couch watching some dumb show that you love while I make fun of the characters and pick out all the holes in the plot. Or sitting at the table eating dinner after I get home from patrol, god I'd even take you yelling at me for leaving all my clothes on the bathroom floor instead of putting them in the hamper over this!" He started to sob bringing her hand to his lips.

Beep....beep....beep....

"I just need to know that your still here with me, I mean I even asked that fucking creep Cullen to visit so he can read your mind, but even he couldn't hear anything! That's how desperate I am y/n I asked a bloodsucker for help, I mean you have to still be in there I'd feel it if you weren't. If you were really gone I'd know! you're my other half...no you're more than that you're my everything!" Paul moved to sit on the bed beside her looking down on her peaceful face as tears slowly rolled down his cheeks.

Beep....beep....

"I love you y/n I can't lose you, how am I supposed to just keep living in a world without you in it! There's no one on this planet that knows me like you do, that loves me like you do. I'll be all alone again, finding you was the best thing to ever happen to me and without you there's nothing. No reason for me to smile or laugh, nothing for me to keep living for you are my whole life and everything in it. How can I even think about stepping back into that house, our home, or sleep in our bed without you there with me. I need you please, please baby don't do this" his sobs and slow tears became loud cries and rapid streams as he moved to cradle her in his arm.

Beep......................

"Don't leave me...."
