Kansas, 1821
Emma Dempsey looked out of her chamber room.
Her blue gown drifted downward; her breasts were covered up. She carried an air of regal behavior that was very important, even though she wasn't as well off as the other Ladies of Kansas were. As she gazed into the English mirror, she sighed...and wondered if her Lord would come and sweep her off her feet...
...But it was just a dream...
...And, as such, wasn't real to her anymore than the other dream she had of marrying a handsome Lord of means...having children...and behave like a true Lady of the House...
