The 10th King

CHAPTER 1: I REMEMBER...

This guy, he was wearing a cloak with a weird looking mask, I think he lost his mind!

I found him a long time ago when I was chasing down a bandit who stole my sack of Seva coins.

He ran through the kingdom. Even as a bandit he was slick, he ran through the dark alleyways where It's so dark, you couldn't even see him!

He outran me, it was too dark for me to see. I thought I'll be lost inside there, but from the darkness showed a ray of light. It was a person! I'm saved! As he closes on to me, he put down his lamp. And begged for mercy. And with silence you can hear his stomach growling. That's how I found the guy with the cloak and the mask.

The guy kept screaming and begging me, "Food!" Countless of times

He didn't shut up, so I tried giving him the apple I brought with me.

He took the apple aggressively and ate it while not showing his face.

I pondered, and questioned myself, "Why is this guy living here in the dark?"

I asked him his name but he couldn't answer. He said that he forgotten his name and his memories.

But he didn't want anyone to see his face. That was the only remaining memory he had.

So, I brought him somewhere he could live in, so I could know more about him.

And that place was my house.

Eventually, his memories return day by day as he lives with me.

But they weren't that significant, like memories of stuff that he played as a kid, memories of his friends and such. They didnt have anything particular to help me...

Then finally he remembered something important.

As I returned after a hunt for some rogue, I saw the guy standing in front of me, shakingly worried.

It was very troubling, so I asked him if he wants something from me.

"I'm hungry!!!", he yelled at me.

*sigh* As a maiden, I'm a good cook myself. So i tried whipping up a dish for him...

I made him a side of curry with rice. It looked very promising. As he saw the food on his plate, he didn't resisted and went for it.

*bites*

And as he bite on the rice, memories flood through his mind as if he's head was about to explode. I rushed towards him because he was about to fall. I catched him with all i've got... I thought he was about to die... eventually he said his last words... only for me...

"You're cooking is sh*t"

He died, and so was my self esteem. I brought him to his bed and waited for him to wake up. It was already night time and I too got sleepy and slept beside him.

As I woke up I saw myself underneath the bed sheet. I doze off! I immediately checked the guy if he was okay. With surprise I saw him looking outside the window remembering something.

He always does this when some sort of memory reoccurs.

"Hey, Sis" he called me.

"What is it?" I replied.

"I think... I work for the 8th king"

"Oh really good for you" I was shocked there for a moment

"YOU'RE MESSING WITH ME RIGHT?".

"It's still really blurry but I remember a glimpse of him, he was smiling as he saw me pass by."

"HOW COULD YOU HAVE KNOWN HE WAS THE KING!?"

"He was wearing the same robe like King Jacob has."

"YOU CAN'T JUST GO ASSUMING SOMEONE AS THE KING, JUST BECAUSE HE WAS WEARING A ROBE!"

"Well, it looked expensive, it has jewelry and everything" he said

"Well, If you did work with the 8th King, you should tell me as soon as you remember, I trust you with this, ok?"

He nodded and smiled after "You really are great Sis!" Said the masked guy.

I blushed with satisfaction. "W-why s-say that o-out of the blue?"

"Well you took care of me after all these years, you really deserve praise. And you're the Maiden Adventurer!"

"Well, thank you but we should go to sleep it's getting pretty dark!"

I feared... for the truth he may hold... could be very important, that can maybe save the kingdom from something.
