We ended up in one of the classrooms at the back of the school with the girl, who we'd now found out was named Saskia.
It wasn't a coincidence Felix had chosen this room; it had a fish tank in it. What better way to test a water element out than with actual water?
Sam was trying to catch the gold fish with a small net, whipping it around in the water repeatedly in a gentle manor but never seizing it. He had a jar in his other hand that he'd previously filled up with some of the water from the tank; its little safe haven while we used the rest of the water from the tank for the tracking spell that Felix had mentioned earlier.
I was standing beside Felix, hands in the pockets of my jacket as I watched the scene before me. Jake looked on, too, but with more excitement than I.
Felix sighed and mumbled something under his breath, shaking his head in the midst of his incoherent babbling. "That wasn't normal." He finalised, causing Jake to glance up at him from his seat on the desk. "A girl like Saskia shouldn't have that much magical power." He added, flicking his eyes to me.
Jake snickered and quirked an eyebrow. "What, more than her?" He quipped, nodding his head once in my direction. I ignored him and Felix only scowled before turning his attention to the blonde girl.
"How did you do it?" He asked her, dark eyes narrowed into suspicious slits as she flung around to face him.
There was little expression on her face as she responded; it was all awfully eerie. "You tell me." She said, a little too nonchalant to be considered normal in this bound of unusual things.
Sam turned around, proud and smiling as he held up the large jar with the fish in it. "Got it!" He exclaimed, beaming down at it inside the glass.
Felix approached the fish tank, staring down at the water with a sense of uncertainty that made my stomach flip. I hoped he knew what he was doing.
"This should be enough for a tracking spell..." He uttered, opening his diary and skimming the pages with a long finger.
"I thought you knew what you were doing?" Jake cried out, suddenly angry at the confused boy.
"I do know what I'm doing!" Felix retorted, practically spitting at the blond. "I've just never done this before, but if it works then we'll be able to see Andy and track where he is." He added, nodding at Sam and I.
Saskia let out an abrupt sigh at his words, her eyes drooping toward the bottom of the tank. "Floating water bombs and magic spells..." She mumbled, her eyes snapping up to that of my boyfriend's. He stared down at her fondly and I quickly looked away. "I don't know about all this." She finished, giving a small shake of her head.
Jake offered her a gentle smile before speaking in a hushed tone he didn't use with the rest of us. "You don't have to be afraid." He told her, reaching out to brush his hand along her arm in an attempt to comfort her with touch.
I noticed the tingle under my nails, but I pushed it aside and tried to focus on the task at hand.
We all stood behind Felix as Sam put the fish down on a nearby table, keeping it safe from the magic we were about to use. He took the talisman off his neck and held it delicately in his palm, gazing at it briefly and reliving the stories it told.
Saskia perked up at his side, creeping forward. "It's beautiful." She stated, her voice a mere whisper. "What is it?"
"It's the reason we still exist." Jake said, causing her orbs to sweep across his face once again. The lingering stares were getting old, but now wasn't the right time to say it. Andy was our first priority, our only priority.
