(^^Oliver's Drawing)
-O-L-I-V-E-R-
High school, for me, is pretty easy. I glide just above the passing line, I'm surrounded by my friends, life's great. I know what you're thinking: Oliver, Oliver, if life's so great, why don't you have a girlfriend? And to that I say, I do have a girlfriend. She just doesn't know it yet.
So, who is this mystery girl, you may be asking? Well, it's simple. Mrs. Evan's class, right beside me is where she sits. Ms. Phoebe Bishop-- soon to be Mrs. Phoebe Davis. Alright, I'll tone down the cheesy crap.
Of course, without background, you must be curious as to why I'm so in love with this girl. That being said, I guess I'll explain.
At the beginning of the year, I was sat stuck in a class where I had no friends whatsoever, and all the people seemed to hate me. Mrs.Evans assigned us seats and I ended up sitting next to Phoebe. She was very shy and reserved, and part of me hated that. I just wished I could at least chit chat with whoever I was sitting by. I got frustrated soon enough and, whenever Mrs.Evans told us we could talk, I struck up a conversation. It went a little like this:
"Hey, I'm Oliver. Guess you're stuck beside me the rest of the year. Bad luck."
"Hi.. Phoebe." she introduced herself. It seemed she was drawing something, as she went back to doing something on the paper in front of her.
"What's that you're working on? Is it a drawing?" I asked, of course probably sounding dumb. Of course it's a drawing, stupid.
"Um.. Yes." She nodded in confirmation, leaning back slightly so I could see. My mouth popped open as I looked over the drawing. It was a rough sketch of a human face, looking to start leaning on the side of turning into a hyper realistic drawing. I quickly looked back up at her, smiling, "That looks awesome! Let me try." I hummed as I pulled a piece of paper from my binder.
Phoebe seemed to raise an eyebrow at what I had just said, but stayed silent nonetheless. I smiled as I got my pencil ready, "I think.. I'm gonna draw you. This is gonna be awesome, just watch and see."
And so, I started to scribble away, obviously not nearly as talented as she was.
The end result was what I'd like to call a rather brilliant drawing of Phoebe, obviously some of my best artwork. However, beside me, there was some snickering, "You made me look like a lion who doesn't know why he's there."
To that, I simply shrugged, "Now you know the truth. This is what you really look like, Phoebe. It's time to accept it."
I heard her soft giggles, which contrasted to what seemed to be her typical quiet, serious attitude. These giggles were instantly followed by a quick "No way!"
And, with that, Ms. Bishop obtained her first friend of the year. Luckily enough, we had the same lunch, so I sat next to her during that, too, as I had yet to locate any of my close friends. She didn't seem to eat much and instead was finishing up on her drawing, but she didn't seem to expect me to sit there so she just stared up at me with her wide chocolate-colored eyes. I sucked in a breath before voicing my thoughts, "Were you waiting for someone? Should I move?"
Within a few seconds she was shaking her head, quickly answering my question, "N..No, I just thought you were gonna go sit with your friends somewhere else and.. Just, nobody ever really sits with me, is all." What could have been a few words turned into many as she rambled, obviously flustered by the sudden change of pace. I just smiled and nodded before starting to eat, leaving us in a somehow comfortable silence as she drew and I choked down the food the school supplied me.
That, ladies and gents, is how basically every day of my life has gone since the first day of school. Phoebe and I sit together unless something came up, which rarely ever happens. She seems to be slowly coming out of her shell to me, which I think is pretty awesome, in my opinion. Now we're just coming out from Fall Break, which lasted a week, which should be a pretty awesome conversation topic.
So, yeah, Mrs. Phoebe Davis. It's gonna happen.
