Summer jobs suck. Especially if that suckish summer job happens to be at Smoothie Universe. And just as if the universe wanted summer jobs to be even worse, it is the cool "hangout" for the teenagers at Garfeild High School. Just to add the cherry on top, you are the loser of the school who works there. You will be mortified.
Well, Alice Koop isn't. She loves her job at Smoothie Universe. Yeah, the name is stupid and she doesn't have as much time to paint, but she is okay with it. She is happy to help out her family, who needs this money.
She doesn't mind to much that all of the so called "cool kids" at her school are always there. She thinks its kind of funny to hear them flirt and gossip.
But every day Blake Yessener, one of the boys on the basketball team, comes back to see Alice every day. He isn't exactly popular, but he wasn't unpopular.
But no one has ever given Alice a second glance. And Alice had never noticed him. But maybe now is the time to.

Blake has known Alice since they were in sixth grade. They were even friends. But when Blake made the seventh grade basketball team, she sort of disapeared. He has always missed Alice, but he didn't want to risk his spot with his friends for talking to the music and arts geeks.
But when he finds out Alice has gotten the summer job at Smoothie Universe, he finds it perfect oppertuinity to try to get Alice back, back before he shut her out.
