"I now have a full grasp of their movements and what they're intending to do next" said Denny.

"And? Elaborate?" continued Clara.

"As we were on our way to get out of town, the military had only been there for a quarter of an hour. Apart for the other car that had flown past us, I think we were the second vehicle they intercepted. All of the other exits had been sealed at least ten minutes before this one. What I heard on the radio was their action phase. This must have been planned out."

"So, are we to stay in town? You said they are surveilling everything, how are we going to leave?" asked Ben as he stared at Denny through the rear-view mirror.
"This is a complete fail. We have no way of getting out of here. They were willing to kill us just so we don't get out. What is their problem? Why would they do this? It just seems so bizarre. Something fishy has happened and I bet that it's not going to end well."

With Clara ending the frustrating conversation, Denny started another that seemed less likely to end like the last.

"The airport! We can still get out! I can fly a plane out of here!"

"That might actually work. Are you sure though?" inquired Ben on a more optimistic tone than the last.
"They're probably going to close off the airport too, so we should hurry. If they had the intention of murdering some people just so they don't escape, they can't be here for very friendly reasons" answered Denny, very optimistic in his tone.

"Wait. I have a feeling that the airport barely has any planes. Who lands here?"
"Ben's right, there could be nothing left. But wait. The Richardsons. They're rich and have like two or three private planes. They most likely keep it at the airport! Denny can you check?"

"There's more than just the Richardsons' planes. There are at least three I could break into."

"Let's go! Ben step on it."

It had been three minutes since their antagonistic encounter, when the car began to involuntarily lose speed until it came to stop.

"Why are we stopping?" asked a panicked Clara

"We're out of gas" answered an irritated Ben.

"How?"
"The bullets must have punctured or destroyed the gas tank. We're going to have to walk."

"It's fine we're only half a kilometer away" said Denny, making it sound like nothing changed.

"I can't just leave the car here. What will happen to it?"

"Ben, it's not the time to think about it. We just need to get out. Did you forget how many cars are just laying around in town? No one's touched them" reassured Clara.

"Yeah, cause there's no one left to" replied Denny.

They all got out of the car, Clara now dragging her suitcase after her, as Denny tried to find a smart way to get all of his suitcases to stay together. Ben grabbed two of them, leaving Denny with one and the grenade launcher that almost sent them to their graves. They deserted the car in the middle of the road, just like the cars that Clara had seen lingering around with their doors open in town and began walking towards the airport. The brightness hadn't improved, and the air outside was still unbearably cold. Fortunately, no wind was blowing which would have worsened the situation. They walked somewhat quickly, almost trotting as they wanted to get to the airport and depart before more of the killers arrived.

"Denny! How much more?"

"Only half way there. They're on their way. They're on the opposite side of town coming from the observatory and moving fast. They'll get there in under 10 minutes."
"Run!"
