(Hi, sorry I didn't make an Easter special. I didn't have any ideas and then Easter came and went. Again, sorry. 😅)
Rachel's POV
I woke up and got dressed. Then I brushed my hair, brushed my teeth, and went downstairs for breakfast. My mom was there, just setting both of our plates full of food on the table. I looked at the calendar and realized that it was Mother's Day!
'Good thing I have the gift ready!'
I thought, then I sat down at the table across from my mom.
Me:"happy Mother's Day, mom!"
Mom:"oh, that's right! I completely forgot! I'd better call your grandmother!"
My mom got out her phone and called my grandma and wished her happy Mother's Day, then we ate breakfast and my mom got her shoes on. She was about to leave for work when I stopped her.
Me:"wait, mom. Are you gonna be able to come home earlier today to celebrate Mother's Day?"
Mom:"...I'll try, honey. We'll just have to see how busy the hospital is today."
Me:"oh...ok..."
With that, my mom smiled at me and walked out the door.
Me:"...I really hope that she can come home early...at least for Mother's Day..."
I said to myself, then I went back to my room and flopped on my bed. I was off of school today for Mother's Day weekend, but it seems that I might be spending it alone anyway. What's Mother's Day without your mother?! Oh well, it's nothing new I guess. My parents are always too busy for stuff like Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentines Day, Easter, Halloween, and sometimes even Christmas! They're never here. I only see my dad at least once every three or more months, and my mom gets so tired after a long day of hard work that we barely even socialize. It's so frustrating! Just then, I heard a knock at the door. When I opened the front door to my house, I was slightly surprised to see Ira, Mackenzie, Regina, and Dina all there!
Me:"oh! Hey, guys! What're you all doing here?"
Mackenzie:"well, we thought that since none of us have moms and that your mom is going to be working for most of the day, we'd come here to hang out with you!"
(Natalie isn't there because she's spending Mother's Day with her grandma.)
Me:"oh, really?! What a great idea! That way, none of us are alone all day! Come on in!"
Mackenzie:"thanks!"
They all came into the house and we all sat in the living room. Talking and laughing together. But then a thought came to mind.
Me:"...wait a minute, Mackenzie, I knew that you don't have a mom, and Regina and Dina, you two came from the heart of the princess, so you automatically don't have a mom unless you count the princess, who's unfortunately gone, but...Ira, I didn't know that you don't have a mom."
Ira:"I don't. In fact, I don't have a dad, either. For the longest time, Marmo and Bel were the only ones who took care of me, but I refuse to refer to them as my parent because, well...
1: the crazy age difference,
And,
2: It would just feel weird...for all of us."
Me:"oh."
Regina:"well, that's funny! I'd always thought that you three looked just like a family of three. There's the man, the woman, and then the kid!"
Ira:"but you're forgetting that the man is like 60 and the woman is 27..."
Mackenzie:"that may be so, but still..I actually have to agree with Regina on this one, from a distance, you guys do look like a family."
Ira:"...I know...in a sense, we kind of are...but again, it would be really strange if I got a gift for Marmo and just said "Happy Mother's Day" to her when she's not even my mother."
Me:"but you said that she and Bel had been taking care of you since you were really young, so, she technically is kind of a mother figure for you, isn't she?"
Ira:"w-well, I guess. But still...I have never called her my mother in my life...and I don't think I ever will."
Regina:"I find that sometimes, when people are too embarrassed to tell you what they want from you, they won't say anything at all."
Ira:"Regina, what're you talking about?"
Regina:"I'm saying, maybe Marmo and Bel really wanted you to call them your parents, but they never told you anything about it because they were too embarrassed."
Ira:"oh, c'mon. There's no proof that they've ever wanted me to call them my parents. I mean, what even are the chances that what you just said is true?"
Regina:"I'm not saying that's absolutely the case, I'm just saying that some people do that."
Ira:"Regina, I'm not just gonna call them "mom" and "dad" just because you have a small, out of the blue theory. Besides, it's not like they've ever called me their son, they only call me Ira, kid, pipsqueak, squirt, little brat, pretty much anything that refers to me as small just because I'm a kid compared to the both of them."
Me:"ok, enough of that. Let's just enjoy the rest of the day, ok?"
Mackenzie:"I agree."
Regina:"yeah."
Dina:"Dina!"
Ira:"w-whatever."
As I looked at Ira, I knew that he was trying to hide. He was saying "whatever", but his face was saying "THANK GOD THAT'S OVER!!". We all went back to chatting and having fun until it started to get late. I looked at the clock at one point and then a sad thought washed over me. Ira noticed and put his hand on my shoulder.
Ira:"hey, is everything ok?"
Me:"...*sigh*...my mom isn't going to come home until it's too late...I know it..."
Ira:"..."
Regina:"oh, c'mon, Rachel! Don't be like that! I'm sure that your mom will be here at any moment! Just you wait and see!"
Mackenzie:"yeah! Then you two can celebrate Mother's Day!"
Me:"...but...even if she comes home at any moment, she won't be able to stay awake for very long and I won't be able to give her my gift..."
Mackenzie:"what is your gift to her?"
Me:"...I was hoping that I could play a song on the piano and give my mom a private concert...I wrote the song myself and I practised really hard...but now it'll all be for nothing..."
By now, I felt tears rising in my eyes. Just then, the front door swung open. I looked up to see my mom, standing in the doorway, taking off her shoes. I was so surprised! She actually made it here earlier than usual! I couldn't help but smile as I ran to my mom and hugged her.
Me:"mom! You actually came home early!"
Mom:"well, of course, sweetie. I did say I would try to get out early, didn't I?"
I couldn't even respond because my face was being drowned in my own joyful tears. After I was able to pull myself together, I brought my mom and everyone else out to the living room again and I went over to the piano. Everyone sat down and I started to play the music. After I was finished the song, everyone was either crying or just smiling at me. Well, Regina was the only one crying. My mom came up to me and gave me a hug.
Mom:"that was absolutely beautiful, Rachel. I loved it. Could you maybe record yourself playing the song and put it on a disc so I can listen to it in the car on my way to work every morning?"
Me:"hehe, sure mom!"
After that, the others left. Me and my mom went to bed and slept soundly.(Heh, there you have it! Sorry that there wasn't a whole lot of Rira in this story, this is all I could come up with. Anyway, I hope you liked this, Bye!)
